Shooting at French Satirical Magazine

It was on the radio today that Charlie Hebdo's next publication will feature the Prophet Muhammad again, but now it's on the cover.

Pretty ballsy to insult Muslim extremists once, but twice and after they rampaged through your HQ killing your staff is something else.

and should they attack again, is it fair to put other peoples lives in danger ? they did kill a police officer too.
the hebdo office will be well guarded so what if they just kill random civilians or target some Jewish place ?

So in short, don't publish a cartoon just in case a Muslim extremist kills people?

If they are making us make changes that affect us all then how are we winning...

Maybe I misunderstood your point but I took it as a "why does this matter to me" kind of thing. To that I was responding that if you can live your life without it affecting you, they are not winning any victory over you, even if they are winning against our rights in general. If they are affecting you? Well then, I guess you are on the losing side after all.

....or have I misunderstood this free speech thing?

I totally agree let's just capitulate to their demands because that has always worked out so well for us from a historical point of view ...

So in short, don't publish a cartoon just in case a Muslim extremist kills people?

So would any of you guys make a massive drawing of Mohammed and hang it across your house putting yourselves and family at risk of attack ?

I also don't get how its been blown so far out of proportion compared to other recent events, such as ISIS murdering thousands of people in days (rounding up men, women and children, throwing them into a pits and shooting them before burning the bodies), but that didn't even hit european news outlets. Free speech is fine and dandy, but the media really do rule peoples opinions and ideals nowadays.

Doubles standards is all that needs to be said.

Watching mainstream news these days, especially the **** that comes on TV is very much like watching the latest Transformers movie for an intelligent and thought provoking experience of modern cinema.

What's even more saddening is how quickly the public laps it all up, as clearly demonstrated on these forums.

I have shared various cartoons via Facebook since this has happened.

Just imagine that these extremist are thinking, hmmmm we killed 20 in France and they stopped drawing cartoons, if we kill a hundred maybe that will stop.........

Do we really want to live like that?

I am not at all religious, so the whole "freedom of religion" thing doesn't impact me in the slightest. Does that mean I shouldn't be upset if is restricted? After all, it isn't going to impact my life if people cant go to their place of worship.

That is the interesting thing about fundamental rights, even if you don't personally exercise all of them, they are still really important. If we decide to restrict them because some nutter will kill you for them, then we don't really have those fundamental rights or freedoms.

Facebook doesn't count.

Why would human beings insult people when they know it offends?

Because ideas should always be open to challenge? Bearing in mind that the cartoons don't even need to be insulting to offend some, the front cover of tomorrow's Charlie Hebdo is fairly benign yet will still be seen as insulting because it depicts Mohammed.
