They seem to be taking their sweet time over this. Did they give you an ETA of when they will be getting back to you?

I would have expected some sort of response on the same day. As of Monday (assume they won't be working on it over the weekend) this will have been going on for nearly two weeks... They've already agreed it's faulty, so I'm not sure why it's taking so long to get back to you over the replacement?

Based on that post i would have assumed they haven't already agreed its faulty,, perhaps they had said to send it back in and be checked?

They have agreed it is faulty based on my findings. Meaning that it failed both the Furmark GPU stress test (which I was surprised they had never heard of) and the one that they sent me. There is no dispute as to whether or not the card has a fault. It quite simply does and if they attempt to say there is nothing wrong with it, I will not be pleased.

They started testing it on Thursday so I was surprised to hear nothing at all on Friday.

Does it also fail in games? Could you elaborate on the nature of the fault?

Furmark is a horrible GPU test and has been known to kill cards.

It only fails in games. Worked fine for 5 months with almost every game maxed out but it degraded to the point where, with the odd exception (Alien Isolation and Dead Rising 3 for example) I had to knock everything down to medium if I didn't want games crashing in around 5 minutes, but often as fast as 30 seconds.

How long exactly should it take for a technician to examine my GPU and determine the fault? It has been nearly a week since they began examining the card.

Well, it should be something like from the day which they received your faulty hardware (if I'm not mistaken), they have up to 28 days to sort it out. In your case, the chances are they may have already sent off your 780 to the manufacturer for warranty replacement.

If my the end of 28 days they still not able to get it sorted out, then they have to (by cunsumer law I believe) give you a replacement that's no worse than your 780 (so either a 780 or a 970), or they'd have to refund you the money (though fully or not, I'm not too sure on this part as depreciation and usage may be factored in).

I half get the feeling they may completely ignore all the discussion about the 790 and I'm suddenly going to recieve a 780 in the post.

Additionally, after reinstalling Windows (one of their suggestions for a solution to the issues I was experiencing) my overclock was gone and I asked them for instructions on how to reapply it. This was on January 8th. They have still to give me these instructions. It isn't overly impressive.

CPU or gpu overclock ?

CPU. It's an i7 4790k that came overclocked to 4.3ghz but after the OS reinstall it was back to the default 4.0ghz.

Scratch that, you are probably talking about your cpu overclock. If so then the only person that can apply that is you. And quite how you lost the overclock whe reinstalling windows is beyond me, that is unless you use some sort of software overclocking.

In this case i suggest you buy a 'bumper book of overclocking' and have a good read.

Also , unless i'm mistaken you still haven't revealed where you have rma'd the card to.

Was the 780 part of a pre-built system ?

What is the vendor of said 780/ system ?

Installing windows would not get rid of a cpu overclock unless it was done using a windows based software such as Asus AI suite, Gigabyte EZ Tune or similar. Any decent retailer would have done it properly using the bios. If this retailer is who I think it is then you are probably getting a repaired or refurbished GTX780 back.

Who do you think it is out of interest? I suppose they mustn't have done it via bios then...
