Resident Evil Remake HD

Typical, absolutely smashed through most of the first part of the game and on the way to the basement crimson-head boss a zombie goes OMNOMNOMNOM round a corner on the way to the flaming save room... nooooooooo!

It's not so bad when you remember where to go and how to lure zombies into a dive... I remember finding it nigh on impossible first time around having played RE2 first (which is so much easier). I've decided however that life is made much easier if you spend a bit of time clearing zombies and getting the shotgun before pushing forwards with the dog whistle, because shortly afterwards zombies respawn / turn crimson if you're a noob.

I have always played RE games initially with the kill everything that moves attitude although it does get a bit tiresome having to keep refilling your canister to burn the bodies. Unless your going for the Samurai Edge, Rocket Launcher etc.

still havent had chance to play this yet, despite purchasing it tuesday :( ive been reading a lot of people finding it rather hard even on the normal setting... man up wimps! this is how games used to be, no hand holding :D and manual saving!

anyhoo, i hope this remake spurs capcom on to thinking about a RE2make. as its the best game in the series, hell.. id be happy with 3 or CV as a remake too. we need more true survival horrors! :)

My memory is hazy - dog whistle? Burning bodies? Luring zombies into a dive?

Is this something they added in the GC version? I dont remember it from the PS1 version......

I vaguely remember a flamethrower, but you didnt get it until very late in the game (but that might have been a totally different resi!)

Admittedly I haven't played Resi1 since directors cut was released on PS1, and a quick google shows me that was 1997!

No wonder I am struggling to remember! Didn't think it had been that long :o

Also, Wikipedia on directors cut:

the player's handgun is replaced by an improved model where any shot fired has a random chance of decapitating a zombie, killing it instantly

That might be why I am getting mixed up about your handgun doing head shots.

I also noticed this bit of Resi trivia, which I didn't know:

Although the PC version of Resident Evil was not billed as the director's cut version of the game, it is the only version of Resident Evil that has all of the uncensored FMVs, which includes the uncensored introduction, Kenneth's death scene in its entirety, and ending as well.

According to Wikipedia, all of the Euro releases of Resi and directors cut were censored, except for PC.

Who knew! :p

I'm a noob. Playing on medium and 2 zombies later all I have is a knife. My character literally had 1 clip for her pistol, and the first Zombie was shot down, then got up and was shot down again. Every shot hit its mark. Was desperately trying to head stomp him when he was down but I figured that isnt a feature in this game unless he grabs you round the ankle.

From a full clip, I had 4 bullets left after killing 1 zombie! Definitely seems harder than I remember, and I used to play on hard on PS1. But, meh, maybe I need to man up and crack on. :p

Like you said, it does show how much easier modern games have become.

aye, the GC version is really rather different from the original. new locations, new enemies, and new weapons. also, you've got added defensive weapons now too.

to be honest, the last time i played it, way back when it first came out on the GC, i was confused because of the new locations. i was also caught out not burning the zombie bodies after i'd downed them :p

this felt totally fresh and new compared to the original/directors cut released back in the 90's :)

So how do I burn bodies then? Have I got to collect something? Or can you do it from the start?

Sounds really cool if its all jumbled up, and there are new locations. When I went around the back of the stairs in the main entrance area, I was like hmmmm, did there used to be a door here?? I just cant remember!! :p

Sounds like it is gonna be an epic challenge. Like playing a new game for me seeing as I didnt play the original GC version. Win win! :D

your first time playing?? you are in for a treat! ;) theres enough familiar locations to feel like the old game, but theres also new locations to make it feel totally new and fresh :D

IIRC to burn the bodies you have a flask/canteen of kerosene, you also need the lighter. its highly advised you burn the corpses. i wont say why as you'll no doubt finds out when you dont have enough kerosene left to burn some :p

edit: i'd probably go as far to say, if you cant burn it, dont kill it. especially if you're pretty low on ammo, try to dodge.

Played the PS1 versions of the original + Resi 2 & Resi 3 Nemesis.

Played Code Veronica and Zero on GC.

Then tried resi 4 on PC. Couldn't get on with it at the start seeing as it was all in 3D and such, and never went back to it (really need to give it another go though as I have read nothing but good stuff about it).

Then played Resi 5 for a short while after picking it up in a Steam sale. Meh, wasn't Resi in my opinion. Just felt a bit to Call of Duty-ised. lol.

Never ever played the GC version of Resi 1. Didn't even know it existed until the other day!

Shame on me! :p

I have almost finished it with Jill and enjoying it. The new controls are a pain with the static backgrounds and fixed camera. A couple of things would have been handy like drawing the door embls on the map when you find one and some auto saving but I guess that would shorten the game.

I gave in and dropped to the medium difficulty. :p

It seems a lot easier now. Double the ammo and half the zombies (one or the other would have been fine)!

I'm still finding it really difficult to dodge zombies.

medium? you mean easy? the three difficulty settings are Medium, Easy and Very Easy. unless you complete the game, then you get hard included in the selection.

They just need to be there own game and atop copying of other games. If this game has the old movement and shooting style I won't be getting it.

crimson-head huh?

I cant remember these!

I do remember completing the game under a certain time to unlock the rocket launcher!!

Some of you guys that haven't played this are in for such a treat. My favourite Resident Evil game was 2 but when I played the Gamecube version of thismy opinion changed.

Just fired it up now. And, I'm not gonna lie, I don't remember it being THIS hard in normal  I died. Switched it back to easy as well. :D wish the kerosene canister held a bit more kerosene than two lots!

It's been so long since I played this (played the US import when it originally came out on PS1.. actually still have it as I like the box) :)

Anyway how long does it take to finish? really can't remember.

At what point again do I get the m249, and homing nuclear missile launcher? :D ha. Kidding. This is capcom at their roots. True survival horror :) the underlying feeling of dread and unease the mansion gives off is brilliant. Really really immersive.

Re5 pales in comparison.
