Galax/Kfa2 980 HOF coil whine :(

I don't think your HM 850w PSU is one of the recommended ones though?

I have used a OCed 780 in this rig and no coil whine so please don't say this is a PSU issue as it only ever whines on this 980 HOF cards I have had 570 in this rig 550TI 760 OCed to it's max and none of them coil whined while gaming

I'm not disputing your past history, but from what I can gather, if you want these cards to be coil whine free you need to get a quality PSU. PSUs that were good enough before might not cut the mustard.

I know all about not having good PSUs don't worry but this is not a pad PSU it may not be the new HXI but it was the one before that which is a good PSU and as the link you sent "OcUK stance on coilwhine is if you have a quality PSU and the card has audible coilwhine on an open test bench, we will replace it." This is the case so It will be sent back after a week if it has not gone.

If you read the past post on here you will see that GALAXY/GALAX/KFA2 know of a bad batch been sent out that suffer from this problem

Take the whole decent PSU solving the problem with a pinch of salt, I've had two Infinity cards and a couple of MSI Gaming cards before that, that have whined like no tomorrow .This with using a Superflower 1000w platinum PSU.

Enjoytroll, you need to fix your signature it's too big as per forum rules :)

Thanks for letting me know I have made it smaller now :)

Ye I agree, I am not worried about my PSU at all I know this is a card issue just really did not think it would take me three cards now and still getting the same issue

I have done so many different tests for this 980 HOF to find the cause of the bad coil whine I even dropped the clocks to below 980 reference clocks there was no change I was shocked guess the only last thing is to give it a week to burn it and see how it goes

Enjoy troll what's the plan if you can't get it to stop whining? Gna stick with it or look to another card?

Cool, for another one? Or would you get a completely different card? Looks to be a beast of a card but I feel your pain with the whine. I get the feeling that this could have been avoided by just using better internals like Gibbo has with 970 reference

I will try one more time with the 980 HOF as like you said it's a beast of a card but I will always settle for something else as long as it does not whine like these do for some reason .
Ye better internals and not allowing for a bad batch to go out I am still finding it hard to believe that every card I have had so far is an affected one must be very unlucky.

I have however seen that they are doing a version 2 on the 980 HOF with lower clocks than mine and this is as I know going to be a fresh batch when they come in stock at OCUK if this is the case I may try for the version 2 as I have always wanted a white HOF card and I would be willing to give it a second shot with a new batch for sure

Yeah that sounds fair enough...kinda ridiculous though as you would think if your going to spend £xxx on a card they should at least QC it properly!

Ye I even tried to get more information from GALAX and they never email back it's shocking as like you said for a card at that price range £500+ never should a bad batch have been sent out

I have tried messaging them directly as well on their website and I have had no response! Good job we have OcUK covering us or we would be screwed!

I am glad I am not the only one that has tried and failed at getting any info out of them I got that one answer which told me about the bad batch and that was it never heard from them again

I suppose they know that they have done wrong and would rather be silent about it. Not the best tactic to use!
