Linx 10.1 inch Windows 8 Tablet - Any good?

Most people report it runs civ 5 but crashes when map gets busy.tablet is great, only problem I've had is the usual problem when WiFi and Bluetooth are on the same chip, when you use the on board Bluetooth it kills the WiFi speed. To sort that out I just use an external USB Bluetooth adapter.

Bought an ipega 9023 gamepad which clamps around and connects by Bluetooth,I use steam in home streaming to it, its unreal looks and feels like the game is running on the tablet itself, truly feels 'next gen'. lots of games run amazing natively on it, including flatout 2,south park stick of truth, virtual tennis 4,portal 2, half life 2 and tons more.If you YouTube for videos of the 2 most popular similar spec tablets, the t100 and the dell venue pro you can get an idea of what runs on this and what doesn't.

My ipega came yesterday and while ive not used it on my Linx yet played with it on my DVP8 as that has 5ghz wifi so doesnt interfere with the BT@ 2.4ghz and gotta say steam streaming Shadows of Mordor on a tablet with all gfx on high looks fantastic. Perfect for couch gaming with the other half watching TV. Thanks for the recommendation.

Anyone tried getting any old Sierra games running on these with touch support? Tempted by Indiana Jones, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Day of the tentacle and other classics.

I tried played Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade on Dosbox streamed from archive.org but touched caused cursor went to wrong places so it not mapped properly and it cannot do full screen. Then switched to Chrome did it full screen but surprised touch support not worked.

I researched on Dosbox touch support, the lastest Windows version is 0.74 released on 12 May 2010, the SDL.dll version 1.2 lacked touchscreen support. Thankfully someone borrowed SDL.dll version 2.0 from Dosbox Turbo for Android which has touchscreen support and he modified it to made touchscreen support worked on Windows 8.1 tablets.

It worked with Dosbox and ScummVM.

I patched the SDL file and tested Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade and Day of The Tentacle on Dosbox, touchscreen worked well. :D

Don't know if anyone is a Plex user or not, but the W8 Plex app is on offer for £1.49. Picked it up for my Linx 8, works nicely much better than the Plex Web experimental player.

Just realised that if you wanted to see if your parcel had been received by Tablet Trade Up there is a Parcel Force tracking number on the label they provided. It's the reference number labeled (customer use only).

Anyone had any trouble playing youtube stuff on the 10" model? mine just stutters all the time, switch to IE and works fine.

And here's why: Click here

Its because the codec in Chrome does not support hardware decoding.

Although, I haven't had a problem with YouTube on Chrome with my Linx 10. I uninstalled IE by removing the feature from Windows.

Yes there are micro USB to USB Hub for mobile phones and tablets you can easy find it anywhere. :)

Cheers managed to get 10 on as found an old USB hub and connected keyboard usb drive etc. Worked quite well but could not get the wlan to work so decided to reset it back to Win 8.1 using the recovery key. This is where my problems started as I cant get the recovery to work as when booted into recovery mode not all language options appear on the screen or appear blanked out.

Trying to email Linx support at the moment unless someone knows how to manually restore from the restore key as it seems to have all the correct images on

What recovery key? Linx tablets use Wimboot so recovery is quite different for them. I would always suggest taking an image with something like marcium relfect before playing with OS stuff. I installed windows 10 on my DVP8 and didnt like it so hour later just restored my windows 8.1 image and back to where I left it.

Sorry I mean I created a recovery USB key which you are meant to be able to recover from but it doesn't seem to work.

I have all the sources for the image on the key but cant get it work

Im not 100% sure how that works with WIMBOOT. As that changes how the recovery stuff works. Its just the term key made me think you had like a product key. You could probably find the ISO for the version of windows from the internet and just do a clean install (you will be missing drivers for touch screen etc so be ready with usb kb/mouse). That would probably work.

Thought Id just say I was testing out droid4x which is an android emulator(think its basically a virtual box vm). Its pretty damm good easy to setup and most things seem to work. Tried dead trigger expecting a slideshow and it was just about playable and then installed plants vs zombies 2 (only game I want from android) and it works great no issues at all. Comes with play store too would recommend if there are a few games/apps you want from android it does take a few minutes to boot though.
