Be careful when buying personal number plates *UPDATE 28/1/15*

I find its good way of spotting the people at work who I never want to speak too...a quick scan of the carpark in the morning help me identify which people are idiots

I am sure it looks great on an Aston Martin or a Ferrari

on a poverty spec bmw 1 series or 5 year old prius..not so great

ive seen V1 CKY on a vectra :o
the plate must be worth many times what the car was lol

My dad has three plates in his possession; each with two letters (initials) and a single number. He got them for peanuts about 30 years ago but god knows how much they cost now. At a guess enough for a small deposit on a house.

his and my mums cars warrant nice plates....the third is on a old old old Renault espace. It's quite comical knowing it! :p

He got me one for about £200 few years back as a joke. I will have them forever.

Calling people because of their choice of plate and brand/age of car is something I expect to read in the Daily Mail comments.

But I do agree, they are a pointless waste of money. Even for a cheap one, I can find better reasons to spend the £250 on.

On a nice car that's obviously well looked after, a personal plate can make it look even nicer. If the plate is something that anyone will easily recognise as something to do with that person then even better and 250 quid for something that is yours for life is actually a bargain.

I saw B13 DCK on a business van today. Not the smarted thing to have on your van really when you're trying to run and promote a legitimate business, and I thought there were rules around suggestive plates?

It's just like when logoed up company vans cut you up, don't indicate etc etc. Not good impression of the business and one I'd avoid especially if it's a local tradesmen type.

Someone living near me has the number plate J15 PRN...i just..don't know why they would do that...
