What did you do to your bike today?

Jeez, that chain  The 30 year old chain on my bonnie didn't look that bad haha!

hehe its well lubed with an oiler the rollers are all perfect its just the outside links were caked in dirt, it has done about 700+ miles since Christmas alone lol

and about 14k in the past year :p

i've been thinking all year how i want a sportsbike, then how i want an fjr for the long motorway rides then an avd bike for the snow and crap, and through it all ive actually done all of that stuff on the VFRand it's done it all perfectly and comfortably.

so i decided sod it im gonna get it in good condition and maybe update some parts with the money i would have bought another bike with.

Hehe I was about to comment that it's good to see someone else putting the miles on through winter. I've had the exact same thoughts as you, although leaning towards sports bike and asking bmw for the s1kr for the day. Instead I've ordered an exhaust to try and distract me for a while/2 years.

Edit: oh, how much for the deep clean fun time by the way? Bmw have a guy who's doing mine, stripping the calipers etc for around £80 I think. I should find an independent/go direct at some stage!

had the bike cleaned and ACF50 sprayed by steve of allyearbiker in warrington, definitely recommend it took him 3 an a half hours to do lol.

And it was just £60? That's quite an impressive price considering the time it took.

It's surprising the nearest one to North London is out past Chesham though :(

I've heard stories of the sump on the S1000RR corroding, particularly at this time of year with all the salt on the road. So I checked underneath the engine and, thankfully, there is no corrosion of the sump or bolt. Gave it a good clean anyway, followed by a liberal spraying of ACF50. After I'd done this, the sun came out, so I couldn't resist taking her for a quick spin around the countryside. Never fails to put a smile on my face!

yep, or 110 if you want another treatment anytime in 6 months from the first.

I sprayed my zx6 sump with clear engine laquer,it keeps the corrosion off

So... I'm a bit of a tit.

My battery had died from a ton of short journeys and then accidentally leaving it on for a bit too long (I'm an idiot... but it gets worst).

So I took it to get it charged. When I got it charged I was told the battery was fine. Took it back and connected it the wrong way...

Now I know positive first etc, and the the battery only fits in one way for you to be able to reach the connectors... or so I thought. It was dark and I misread the top. The way I fit it in looked ok, but the seat wouldn't have gone back down. Sadly I was too late queue a spark when I hooked the negative up (bugger bugger, and lots of swearing) and I'd blown the 30amp fuse. So chucked in a new one, fitted the battery up and it started straight up with my lovely freshly charged battery.

Went out for a nice two hour spin... stopped for petrol and low and behold it's dead. Now I've had to charge this battery up once before so I'm getting the feeling (and hoping) that it's the battery that's dead.

Is it possible to have damaged the alternator from what I did, or more likely to be the battery?

My google skills told me to jump start the bike and just leave it running and that if it was the alternator the bike would die after a while (which it didn't). However I don't want to go and get a new battery if it's the alternator instead?

either the battery or the rectifier

I had one like that it would let me ride so long then flat as a dodo, new battery sorted it

cold weather wont help either with battery's,the cheapish mf battery's are decent, have them on my bikes for few years

Cold weather? What's that? ;)

Ok thanks that's awesome to hear. My uncle has a battery selling business so I'm going to bug him for a free one as I give him free stuff from my work . Just didn't want to do it and then come back next week after finding out I was wrong.

I had to jump start the bike in the garage in front of a load of other bikers, was a sad moment in my biking career :D
