*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

I don't get how people can get so riled up about what Xur sells.

Yes I get disappointed that he don't have stuff I want (or new to me), but I also feel the same with Lottery. I don't demand Kamalot to make sure my numbers come up the following week.

I can be cynical, and with a lot of DLC items showing up on Xur, I do think they might want to sell more DLC but the logical mind says: look at Bungie and the farce of an issue they're having with Heavy Ammo, perhaps it is that complicated in coding that it's not simply a drop box for them to select what's for sale via Xur that week...

Either way, come what may, I just enjoy the game as it comes.

Like today, I got 3 legendary engram within 20mins of each other. Like buses, not seen one for ages, 3 came along and 1 of them turned into an Exotic Weapon (Midas Multi Tool 2.0!)

Typical, just when I got a new fancy game I got into (Dying Light), I get an Exotic Weapon to upgrade on a week where I have minimal play time. BAH!

Got too Lv20 last night, and got my first peice of light gear, nothing special yet only gives 5 light haha. Quick question, is it silly to spilt time between PVE/PVP instead of just focusing on 1. I personally want to keep a good mix so I don't get too bored.

There is a *lot* more PvE content than PvP, and you can only get to the maximum light level through PvE drops. I started off just playing PvP and burned out on it, then got into the PvE side, raids etc

If you like PvP I would keep doing it and collecting crucible commendations/marks and get into the legendary armour from the vendors. Future War Cult stuff is pretty good.

Once you get that gear to 26+ you can jump on Vault of Glass with guys on here (best part of the game) which will give you loads of ascendant materials for upgrading your armour and some of the (still) best weapons in the game, and exotics. Then at 29 you can get onto the Nightfall strike which drops good stuff.

Quick word of warning on this;

If you are doing the "Kill blades of Crota on Earth or the moon" be careful when attacking them at a relatively low level. Occasionally the blade will be accompanied by level 22 Acolytes despite only being level 3-6 itself. I have seen this both in the Steppes and Mothyards.

Yeah, I've had this before as well. Easy enough to just snipe the blade guy or rockets!

Came across this comment from DeeJ on the Bungie forums and so thought I'd share it here (seeing as his replies are like unicorn poop!). It's in reply to a thread "proving" that what Xur sells is not random. This is from earlier today.

Hey, there. Let me attempt to clear some things up here.

Xur is randomized. There are times when we can pull off miracles like making him stay in the Tower longer when Christmas is cancelled, but his inventory is governed by the same chaos that influences all the loot drops.

Comments in that video about "the plan" were more about the fact that we know what he's selling before he appears, even if we can't reach out and stock his shelves ourselves. We set him in motion, and his will is not his own.

Also in that video, you can hear me confessing that I'm not always in the loop when it comes to these things, so you should take pre-game lobby comments among friends with a grain of salt. That video was from months ago, and I was still learning the intricacies of all the new systems that we launched with the game.

These conspiracy theories are symptoms of a burning desire. Gjallarhorn is the most popular ask that comes my way. I know you want it, even more than the collective requests for more vault space. As you can see, these are things that are beyond my control. I don't have one either.

I'll do my best to talk to the people who create the code that drives Xur, and see if we can make him more valuable to you in the future.

It's quite obvious it's all random, I think so anyway, but a lot of people have their doubts judging from reading some bungie.net forum posts! I can't see why they would go through the trouble of hand picking stuff each week when they can just get their programs to do it for them.

It would be nice to know if some items and exotics are weighted though, or if they are all treated as equal. Also if there is something in there that makes all his sold armour/weapons from the DLC (not upgrades, just new). If you search for videos where people went back in time using the Playstation date trick, some exotics came up in his inventory a lot more than others, which would indicate some are weighted to show up more than others, but maybe these values change week by week or maybe they are straight up hard coded, if they are weighted at all. Would be nice to know more about how it works.

Makes me laugh when I read stuff like "Xur will never sell Gjallahorn or Ice Breaker because it would make everything too easy".

Dont think you can take DeeJ at his word tbh

I would say lvl18 Exclusion Zone using resupply codes is better for glimmer farming.
I noticed he wasn't using resupply codes at Valley of Kings, perhaps he never had any ?

Similar thing happened to me - got 3 legendary engram drops over the weekend, not end-of-mission rewards or anything, but actual shiny balls falling to the ground! Not see one in ages!

Turned into legendary hunter helmet (sharded), 2 shards, and Starfire Protocol (a couple hours after buying from Xur). So not great loot, but was a very nice surprise at the time :)

P.S. Why you not raiding this week!? :p

Got another Vex MythoClast last night so I have one for both of my characters now.

Still no gjallahorn or suros regime. I think once you get a certain exotic it drops more for you. Everyone who has gjallahorn seems to get a second or third within weeks. I still haven't got a single one.

I have 2 characters so 2 x nightfall, 2 x VOG and 2 x CE gives me 6 chances of dropping an exotic per week. nearly 1 every day which is not bad. How long til I get it though is anybodies guess.

For example I bought the strangers rifle and I got it again doing a nightfall I think a few days later. So it does seem common once you get a certain exotic it drops frequently.

I believe that is the footage he referenced to in the quoted text but I still don't see how he could completely misinterpret what the bungie employee was saying in regards to Xurs loot table.

Yeah that's why I added the video - its quite clear what he says in it so his retraction seems pretty bizarre.

While from what I've seen there's RNG no doubt what list that RNG uses is tailor made. 2 weeks with the same items all from TDB seems unlikely...

don't suppose anyone has the gorgon maze checkpoint I could nab before reset on xbox one, still looking for the Gjallarhorn so just need to tryout the exotic chest. I haven't done VOG on any of my chars this week.
I'll be on from about 19:45 tonight.

I think the arguement of it being truely random falls down on that there have been weeks where Xur has sold the same as previous. If it is 100% random (or as random as it is possible to make) then out of all the exotics for him to sell the odds of selling the same 5 are going to be very high.

I don't think Bungie are picking the items each week but conversly I do not think it is quite as random as suggested i.e. not all exotics are in the list or they are weighted.

I agree it is funny readong some of the comments of Xur wont sell Icebreaker of Gjallahorn as he then sold icebreaker the other week :D

I am glad I bought the Suros regime when Xur sold it as it has never dropped for me. Even running 2 characters almost since release and 3 for the last 5-6 weeks the drop rate for exotics still isn't that high. Lots of chances but so weighted against dropping I still don't see that many.

I don't have the CP but I'd join you if you get it. In fact, I'd even join from the Oracle CP on hard if anyone has it as the Praetorian Foil is the only VoG weapon I don't have, and Oracles and Templar only take about 15mins.

I have the exact same waiting list...
I want a Universal Remote just so I can my favourite load out from Halo: Shottie/Sniper on PvP.

I've seen Universal Remote drop for people twice, and Red Death and the Crux once each (both for Ehhh Mazin!). I've never seen Hard Light drop for anyone.

Those 4 are on a list of 7 weapons that I would still like to get. Praetorian Foil, Oversoul Edict, and Word of Crota make up the rest. Really though, I'd be happy with just Necrochasm, Word of Crota and Red Death.

Good drops over the weekend among friends. We did a quick VoG normal and my friend got x2 Suros Regimes. 1 from the chest and the other from Atheon. Another friend got a Universal Remote from a strike and I got The Last Word from Omnigul. Doubt I'll use it though as I have Hawkmoon which is better in PVE and just as good in PVP imo. TLW only has 8 bullets so only good in a 1 v 1 situation. Cool animation though :-)
