Gaming, G-Sync, 120hz, 1440p

G-Sync could be overlooked, but it needs to be at least 120hz and 1440p. There's no point in 4k as I won't have the GPU power to drive it, plus I want 120hz smoothness.

It is currently the only choice. It is also an excellent monitor, i have owned a 1440IPS 60hz, a 4KTN 60hz and the swift and it is hands down the best of the bunch.

mind you i also have my eye on the 21:9 Gsync 3440x1440 but there is no telling how long that will take to actually come out

but if you are buying now and dont want to wait the rog swift is the best gaming monitor currently available imo

I am pretty much the same as Andy and had the same previous monitors and would never go back to any of them over the Swift. Great monitor and I am a big fan of G-Sync. I can't stand playing games without G-Sync running now.

I'm saying that to get 120fps at 1440p is as demanding as getting 60fps at 4k.

OK. I know I'm not going to get 120fps in AAA titles with everything maxed out, but I want the option of 120hz or anything from 60hz - 120hz in those games that will allow it.

As long as I'm getting 60hz minimum in most games, and the option to go higher. That's why I'd want G-Sync too... for situations when refresh is set at 120hz and the GPU can only drive 80 etc.

Fair enough, from my experience when running a 120hz monitor i dont notice frame tearing when running under or over 120fps. However on a 60hz monitor i notice it quite badly.

Same here. It's why I would compromise on the G-Sync but only if the alternative monitor was substantially better than the swift, because having G-Sync is undoubtedly a good thing.

It seems that even without G-Sync, the Swift is the one to go for? This is why I started this thread really.

A bunch of alternatives will be launching this month and next, you'd be best served to wait.

The G-Synchless BenQ based on exactly the same panel as the ROG Swift will retail for ~£450, perhaps under in some places. That's ~£200 less for an identical panel, and since it supports the VESA adaptive synch, when NVIDIA finally drop their proprietary G-Synch charade, you'll be able to use adaptive synch with either vendor's cards.

I have to say, even as a swift owner, if you can bear to wait for a few months I definitely would. There are some really interesting monitors launching this year. I know people say you can always say that about tech, but some times there really are periods where things leap, and it's wise to hang back and make a more informed choice. This is one if those periods, I think.

I'm waiting on the Acer Predator XB270HU coming at the end of March (though I anticipate possible delays). 1440p, 144Hz, G-sync IPS panel, but if your anal about response times the Swift is probably the best choice. If what spoffle says is a good estimate of 4K performance then I hear good things about the Acer Predator 4K2K XB280HK which is available now.

I considered the Acer Predator 4k2k XB280HK as I felt I was future proofing myself at a lower price, basically play at 4k where I can and at a lower res of 1440p where my system struggles at 4K. However, I don't want 60hz @ 1440p so I ruled it out.
