Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Cool thanks for all the info you have provided, its been great :), hopefully other people can benefit from it also :)

I did get to an altitude where I couldnt see the LED but closer range yeah that would be useful.

Will see what the weather is like tomorrow, hopefully like today but a bit less wind.

No probs, it's a steep learning curve :-)..Btw those b6ac chargers from memory just can't provide 5a, so expect to see less even when you set it

Had my first flight today after a little last minute reconfigure due to mag issues with the power lines. Flew really well though the pid terms need tweaking a little to improve responsiveness. Over the moon with getting it up into the air.

It's a good feeling :)

Possibly flight today with a temp camera on board, don't know what the footage will be like, not the best camera

EDIT: Was a bit windy today, more than yesterday, made it a little more difficult to fly at higher altitudes and keep it near you. Which raises the question, I was under the impression that GPS Atti mode, whilst moving from left to right, once you let go of the sticks it will stop moving left/right and keep you at that columb if you will, however I thought GPS Atti was also when you want to hover at one location, even if the wind moves you it will correct back and hold that position?

Going to see what the footage is like now but its a bit windy so not expecting great footage, and also its just a temp camera mount with a 4mp camera. No Gimball.

DJI F450 - Naza V2 - Flight with mobile phone camera mount - shakey - (the road to the right of me is dead), the footage I have facing the other way are quite low flights because of the wind, so couldnt see a lot)

Looks a bit too windy to be flying as you can see she is really struggling to stay level.

In GPS mode you should be able to center throttle, let go of the sticks and it should stay in position (within a 2m radius) even when windy. It also means that when traveling in a direction if you center the right stick you will slow almost straight away and fix to the spot. (in Atti you would continue to drift with momentum)

Yeh I gave up after a quick flight as it was way too windy, did manage to have a quick test of IOC (Home) seemed to work on the odd time, not quite sure if I have that feature worked out, will come back to that.

Failsafe I tested, altough my battery was low, the bird had flown about 50-80 yards away, and I flicked the switch, it picked up to about 20 meters then looked like it was trying to get back to me, but by this time the wind had picked up quite bad so it was fighting to get back, it eventually landed about 30 yards from me, I am not sure if this is a GPS miscalculation, or it may have gone in to 2nd stage battery protection due to the work it had to do with the wind, as when I tested the motors they had stopped.

Will leave it this weekend now and try and find a calmer day

You have to be careful with failsafe, it will fly to where it set home location.... (you can force it to reset home position with the IOC switch by rapid toggling it, though might be worth reading up on this to confirm)

When you take off the rapid green flash will indicate home position set, if you fly off before the sats are locked in, home position may be set some distance away.

Take off in atti, wait for sats to lock then engage GPS, unless on the ground you have a good lock. As soon as you take off with a good lock the light will rapid flash green

IOC also heads towards home position, so if 30 yards away it would act weird... also IOC will not work until over 10m away I believe. (could be 20m cannot remember)

Ah that may explain it, could be that I didn't wait for a lock

Yeh I got IOC to work but only the once, not sure what happened the other times, it headed back towards me and then stopped in the air.

Will do some more reading and have another attempt

The landing skids Flukester has are the same I just got - from AeroXcraft - they're on offer at £49.90 at the moment ... However they are advertised as being for the F550 so I don't know how well if at all they'd work on an F450?

Very good quality and decent clearance but they are actually leaving me with less than the ones I had before - which are the exact type you linked from eBay DJMK4!

Cool thanks for the heads up, I don't think I want to spend too much, although my primary aim is to move away from the plastic legs I have, ideally something up to £25-£30 maybe.

Want to be able to mount a go pro eventually

Weight and clearence is key, and quality wise if it ain't going to fall apart, that's a start

Would you say the ones on ebay are decent enough for the job? Can you attach the plate for go pro mount?

I had to order a new pair as one leg snapped when I crashed my F550 last year. They do have a fair bit of give in them which is good to a point but they are cheap for a reason which was why I've now opted for the more expensive set but you get what you pay for!

The clearance is fine for my H3-3D with Hero 4 to move about without touching the ground which is all I needed really :)

Yeh that's one thing that worried me, just need to ensure its sturdy just in case something happened and impacted a little too hard
