This weekend is the first free weekend I've had for months so I was looking forward to getting my first FPV flights on. But my compitent observer is buggering off so I can't![]()
Also, out of interest, does anyone here fly a Phantom 2 or similar with a Zenmuse H4-3D gimbal?
Yeah, if you get somewhere remote enough you can safely fly without an observer if you use common sense. I've never really flown with an observer apart from when the person I'm flying with has landed and taken off their goggles to change a battery or fettle. If you can literally get out to the middle of nowhere (no buildings/people) then you could still have a play low and close. Not that I'm suggesting you should, of course.
Saying that, even right out of the way my spotter mate saved my quadcopter from being savaged by a random dog that came out of nowhere.![]()

Also I'm guessing your VTx is over 25mW? why worry about breaking other rules if you're already breaking one![]()
I presumed from their description that only the H4-3D was capable of carrying a Hero4? In which case that's the point![]()
Have an explore on Google maps! just look around for something that is relatively open and not farmland or forest.I don't suppose anyone knows good spots near Leatherhead?

This place looks interesting just down the road from you...

It's always easier to ask forgiveness than permission.
Just be an considerate flyer, find a quiet space on a quiet day and if anyone does ask you to stop apologise, be friendly and leave. The NT doesn't allow flying anyway, it's not like your actions will affect other flyers, they can't double ban flying on their land.
Dartmoor NPA doesn't allow flying either but I've always done it somewhere quiet and out of the way and never had a problem.
National Trust own almost everything around me![]()
