Eagle doesn't have the power/distributor for 2 beams. You will still want to get one to try it out anyway, but its a short stepping stone to the Viper. Pew pew > maneuverability.

I've been trying to do this, but my Xbox Live Vision camera keeps "disconnecting" itself. It disappears from FaceTrackNoIR, but also disappears from Device Manager and anywhere else it would appear.

I hunted in Googleland for about two days trying to resolve the issue, but nothing I've found has helped.

The camera has spent the last few years in a cold and slightly damp garage, and I'm just wondering whether this has damaged it, but I cannot tell.

It's very frustrating - I had it running for a few minutes at a time and then it just disconnects with the "device has been unplugged" warning sound in Windows.

Any ideas?

Windows 8.1 here with nothing unusual by way of settings or peripherals.

Cheers

Mine did that too, as I initially had it plugged into the USB hub on my monitor. Moved it onto the motherboard and then it started behaving itself. I guess it may have been struggling for power.

Apart from that, I didn't do anything else.

...but I did notice I had all my cargo back (516T paladium) when I bought back my ship so I must have had some kind of cargo insurance, lucky as that would have been another 7million loss

There's no such thing yet, as far as I know. It sounds like you were hit with a glitch that then repaired itself and left you back in the position you were in before you had the fight.

Thanks for that; I did try a couple of different USB ports but I'll have another fool around with it and see what happens.

Cheers :)

Ah, that's a pain. The A rated power plant on the sidewinder was enough for two beams, but I found the beams no good for many ships' hull so I swapped one for a frag. Had a mammoth dogfight with a federal dropship with two beams. Must have gone on for a good half hour to forty minutes.

I wouldn't wait in a Sidewinder until I had "2,783,935"!

I think its totally viable to shoot stuff for money at low levels instead of trading, but you are going to want to be moving to that as soon as you can if you are.

Just looked at the min spec (Mostly D stuff, but C distributors and frame shift) I would want to leave an Eagle for and its 370K. Likewise about 90+K to move from the Sidewinder to the Eagle.

Thats why I always found beam lasers to be worse than pulse lasers on many ships. If you are trying to sustain fire in PVE then beams have worse damage over time. Different in PVP when you will get large tracts of time between firing to recharge, and its ultra important to try to surprise your opponent with burst damage before they can use a Shield potion.

When you have spare hardpoints (like the Asp, and somewhat with the Viper) then you can mix.

Hmm. Think I'll take the plunge and get a cobra tonight, then. I've got the money but I've been holding off as I'm still having fun in the Sidey.

I am interested to see people's loadouts. I will show mine when I finish work and someone asked earlier about turreted weapons... How do they work, as I can't get them to shoot?

Arrgghh.

Tenche luxuries run finished so I heard back "up" 170 ly to my old trade route.

Then boom another luxuries run opens up about 40ly "down" from where I came from.

So that's a 30 jump 230ly journey back. Should be fun.

Wow, looks like a huge list of new features in 1.1, just downloaded the launcher;

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=108887

Ones I found interesting upon a quick glance;

- Lowered speed, manoeuvrability and shield strength on Python
- Add 'Discovered by' tag to system map - needs to be surfaced scanned
- City lights on imhabited planets
- Optimise route planner
- Improvements to getting NPCs to leave a crowded station when player is denied docking permission
- Rebalanced shield strengths at different pip levels to make those levels useful
- Added a chevron to the landing pad schematics to help indicate the direction that a player's ship should be facing when docking
- Rebalanced shield cells to take more power, have less ammo and cost more per unit than before
- Interdiction can be a Crime
- Dumbfire missiles can now be shot down by PD weapons
- When the player accidentally hits an AI ship damage is accumulated. If a threshold is exceeded (by multiple hits or a powerful weapon like a rail-run), the ship turns hostile. The AI ship will "forget" the damage before it turns hostile:
1) if the AI ship recharges its shield to 100%.
2) if a (currently 30 sec) timer runs out.
- Tweak Python collision to make cargo scooping a bit easier
- "Seeking Luxuries" Rarer in boom states :p
- "Seeking Luxuries" Rarer in boom states

- "Seeking Luxuries" Rarer in boom states

- City lights on imhabited planets

^ I like the sound of that one. One step closer towards them adding planet landings by at least making the planets look occupied.

- Optimise route planner
- Added a chevron to the landing pad schematics to help indicate the direction that a player's ship should be facing when docking

Goooooood! :)

there's an absolutely huge list of features, it's beta 1.1 - you create a new commander and get 100k starting credits (separate game in the launcher)

Gonna give it a quick bash,
