As for flashing with nvflash I have done it several times and this guide might help you, at least to be better informed....

...it is a bit of a bum twitcher and please read about the risks etc, probably more to do with your hair falling out.

Been explained loads of times in this thread alone.
Does not change the fact its rewarding failure with more money meaning that none of you can ever complain about apple fans or if Nvidia or amd screw up. Like I said that BBC documentary was right. You should watch it.

Companies like Nvidia and apple must be laughing. Op could have just turned a setting down and been fine.

*sigh*

Having their best selling GPU in B grade stock, with negative reviews all over the place and no doubt a massive surplus in stock that won't shift due to a decline in sales post RamGate is hardly a rewarding situation for them to be in.

People haven't stopped buying laptops with nvidia gpu's because of the 970 situation, and I'm sure the 750ti sales haven't been affected, so why should the 980 be any different?

Now, if people where queuing up to buy 970's that had a new spec label and a tenner off the original price tag, then you might have had a point...

Got mine yesterday and it also had 52% fans - could the bios update be posted somewhere to download please.

I have just got it direct from KFA. I'll post a link to it in a minute.....

that is what I have got. But I have not had the time to check it out.

The advice was....

Please remove all GeForce drivers before updating.

Be careful but please post back on your results.

When ever i see people upgrading from a 970 to 980 i just keep visioning that video of the laughing dude lol.

After going from a 980 to 970 SLI and being very happy I tend to agree that image comes to me also.

What also makes me laugh is the people who shouted the loudest about the VRAM issue then go for a card thats only got 512mb more than what they had previously albeit 512mb of traditional VRAM to makeup the 4gb.

There isnt only one choice either ie the 980. Turn settings down or wait for the next round of nvidia cards.

Except that extra 512 traditional VRAM seems to make all the difference as almost everyone that's upgraded has stated the stuttering is gone.

Turning down the settings a notch is a no go for me, if I've paid £640 for sli then yeah I'm gonna put up the settings to a reasonable level and not expect stuttering especially since it's only at a point once it goes beyond a certain memory threshold.

Anyway having used AMD for a long time I fancy a bit of a change and minus the stuttering I liked the gamesworks stuff, PhysX and the Nvidia software was a joy to use not to say I had any problems with AMD software I just preferred Nvidia's hence me going 980 instead of 290X again.

just downloaded from Vimes link and had a quick look at the new bios in the maxwell bios tweaker
(thanks Vimes :))

You are welcome and mine has now been flashed and idles at 30%

All good :)

Bum only twitched twice.

so it works then fine and lowers the speed fantastic.
has it changed any performance in games like fps wise or jus the speed change?
has the bios number changed also

Chaps who uploaded the zip - many thanks, worked a treat.

I went with disabling the driver rather than uninstalling,
just ran the 'f.bat' from elevated command prompt - no problem, also make sure your antivirus is disabled while flashing.

So it went from 52% idle fan speeds to 30% idle fan speeds.
Idle temp with new speeds - 28C. Scrap that, just dropped to 27C - never seen this before even with 52%? Extra throttling when idle maybe?

edit #2:
This is actually the 1st time I've climbed out of 10k range since I got this card. Definitely like the new bios.

Happy days.

Hey mate,

tempted to flash mine, did you get an increase in your 3D Mark after the BIOS flash? Also can you give me a brief guide on how to do this? :) Thanks.
