people would jump on you for this but i completely agree.
Just a clarification, are you saying that poverty is a choice, when factors such as disabilities and other medical conditions are excluded?
That's the second comment i have picked up on the so called not trying at school, have you ever wondered some people can not progress with education through one way or another does not mean there was no effort put in, again far to many on these forums tarnish people who didn't do well at school are classed as a waste of space, do you know how pathetic you all sound, i would love to meet people like you in real life and show you how you give respect.![]()
I'm sure 99% of the people on here with extreme opinions would rarely if ever make them known outside of this 'anonymous' forum.
Lumping me in with that?
Because the last time I aired similar opinions to those I have aired in this thread I was on a rostrum in front of 5000 people![]()
As a society we seem to calculate intelligence on academia.
Maybe I should have phrased it as, "mortgage you can afford".
Anyway who cares, you knew what I meant.

Huh? That's irrelevant to this thread,
Academia does have an impact on wealth however. It's not a guarantee (what is in life?) but its not a spurious correlation either

I agree that this is perhaps wrong later in life. But there is no escaping that you gain most of your intelligence from school / college / uni when it comes to the pivitol time of getting your first job/ starting your career.
.
Poverty can indeed be a choice, how is that not hard to understand? People don't intentionally go 'you know what, I choose to live in poverty'. People choose to take drugs, people choose to not be sensible with money. People choose not to educate themselves. The result is then poverty. You are aware that I am talking about people strictly in the UK? Places like Africa is a completely different story and you know it. In the UK all the tools and opportunities are there for you. I know people who have come from what is coined 'relative poverty' and are now successful (home owner, decent job, family, etc.)
He said 99%. Its not ALL about you![]()
I don't think any of your opinions are extreme. That I've read so far anyway lol.
Absolutely, But what seems to happen is. If your academic then you'll get a good job making someone else rich.
If your not academic but still intelligent then you'll work to make yourself rich.
begs the question, Who's the smartest![]()
Poverty is not a choice (sane people don't actually choose to have insufficient food/clothes/shelter) and, amusingly, your argument supports this view as you're actually saying that poor choices lead to poverty. The interesting part is that you suggest that the majority of poor people or a large percentage are poor because of these choices. By that reasoning, if these people stopped being so lazy, stopped taking drugs, and started making right choices, they would not be poor anymore. Correct?
That depends whether you measure success by wealth and material possesions.
Nope I'd argue it makes you smart. But I don't know how you came to have no mortgage. If it was inheritance then I'd say great your family earnt enough to not saddle you with any debt and were clever enough to buy property to leave to their loved ones.
My Wife's Grandparent's sold the house to my Wife's father for 2/3 its at the time market value. He then gifted the house to my Wife.
We are lucky enough not to have to get a mortgage. I would hate having that looming over me![]()

Yes its not nice at all having a big mortgage hanging over you, I wont be able to finish paying for mine until I am at least 65.
But guess what, I in no way hold your good fortune against you or begrudge you in any way shape or form or feel cheated that your luck was better than mine and I don't feel you should pay anymore into society than you already are... Unlike a lot of people will on here it would seem...
I say, good for you!![]()
