Just like loads of people in our own past have. Who colonised the world, most of them where horrendous journeys that realistically only one way.

Also wtf is with the video asking you know there will not be sex.
Wtf, yes there will be sex on mars, there will almost certainly be sex on the way to mars as well.

Thats two names spring to mind, it is true that a core part of our history is nutters who are prepared to do the supposedly impossible just so see if they can.

Yeah going to Mars, which we know will be dusty and cold with no breathable atmosphere, is just like colonialists exploring their own planet!

It's not at all.
It'll be safer than what's happened before.
Do you know how bad the past was, even fairly recently. Now how many died in long sea journeys before they even colonised.
Just look at us English with scurvy.
And I didn't say it was just like it, it is however is very comparable.

No but as part of the plan there will be cached internet of your selected sites.
Live internet wouldn't work due to the time delay if the speed of light. Which is about 8-20mins each way depending one current orbit position.

I wonder if VM would upgrade the cabinet on Mars then to get around the 8 minute delay. can't play TF2 with 8 minute lag, would get insta-kicked off servers :mad:

I remember reading about how for internet access they'd have to have special caching servers and keep-alive proxies to stop stuff timing out, etc. and some sites wouldn't be usable due to timing out. Bandwidth actually isn't an issue - infact it would be relatively trivial to hook up mars with 100s of mbit/s of connectivity to earth but the latency is another matter heh.

EDIT: Oh Glaucus covered it already - missed that post.

Mars has 1% CO2 atmosphere, 0.38G, near-full exposure to radiation, freezing temperatures and is covered in lifeless desert.

The new world has a breathable atmosphere, 1G, warm temperatures, resources and native population of people to trade with.


Mars is suicide until someone builds a vehicle powered by cold hydrogen fusion with an ion engine capable of 1.7G of acceleration to enable travel to Mars and back in under 48 hours.
