New PCS+290 Arrived today plus some benchmarks

Man that Trixx software is buggy, everytime I click "settings" the program crashes(!)...

I managed to figure out the constant 3D clock thing, I had unofficial overclocking mode set to 'without powerplay support', once I disabled unofficial overclocking all is well and the card is now downclocking when idle with an overclock (yay) :)

Crazy score BTW richard, was 1600 faster than 1500 for you then?
I noticed a drop in performance with anything over about 1500.

EDIT: you can change the skin for AB in the 'User interface' Tab.

It was actually if i tried anything in 1500 ish range it gave me a lower score. try 1600 and see if that works. If you can get any results from the trixx software i would love to see it :D

I can field this one. One particular version of the Trixxx software crashes everytime, V4.8.6 i think. So use the latest version or the version prior to V4.8.6.

Well I tried 1230/1600 with +130mv and got a score of 1562 / 62.0FPS

It didn't look pretty :p and 100% fan speed makes my cat go loopy haha..

@AMDMatt, I'm using 4.8.9, every other tab works fine, it's not a big deal, I can still overclock:D

EDIT: I always only ever do one run, I've read that if you do two, the second will be better with a higher minimum frame rate. Are other people doing more than one?

Pretty good that, leave volts at 130 and move gpu clock down a bit maybe. you might find you can get a stable clock or keep 1230 and drop memory down to 1500?

Sounds to me at 1230 it must still need some more voltage juice :D

Why not use MSI Afterburner for your overclocking and monitoring?

Yeah the core was definitely unstable, I got artefacts that looked like space invaders! was kinda cool :o

Quite surprised 1600mem ran ok, most people report of blacksceening if the mem is unstable, however I think 1500 would probably give a better score.

Think I'll leave the benching for now, I've had a few bad experiences before so these days I'm abit of a chicken :(

@ fs123, I was but AB has a limit of +100mv, whereas Trixx has a limit of +200mv, More voltage!

To be fair i don't blame you, well done on getting as far as you did. As for a decent 24/7 overclock try 75 volts 1180 core and 1500 memory. ran beautiful no artefacts and was Perfect over clock for me anyway.
Also made a custom fan setup which is nice as well.

Might try trixx tomorrow and see what i can get get at 130 volts.

Hey all,

Im a bit of a lurker on this forum but signed up recently and here is my first post!

I got the 290X lightning LE when it was £239 with several free games, delighted with it - incredible value!

As has been mentioned before on this forum the memory clocks with core voltage, with the lightning you get access to control mem volts too, but I have not needed to touch this and am running 1650 mem as my daily clock. The best balance for my card as a daily clock is 1150/1650 at +93 mV, this gives me core temps under 75 and is totally stable including OCCP stabilty test which will really get to the root stability of any overclock. Ive found with the 290 series, sometimes if the overclock isnt right, it wont artifact but it will cause black screens randomly or hang the system.

Anything above 1150mhz core speed requires a massive increase of volts so its not worth it to clock any further than this for a daily clock. At these settings it rips through all games at 1080/120 - can not fault the card for the money paid.

My asic score is 76% fwiw.

My heaven benchmark is above (running with a 3570k @ 4.4ghz) - interesting to see how it compares to clocked 290's. I heard it was easier to push the core on the 290's compared to 290x's also.

Yeah that is a nice 24/7 OC, I may just run 1140/1500 with stock volts though just to keep the temps and noise really low. Let us know how you get on with trixx and what OC's you achieve :)

Hi and welcome!

Great score, I see those extra shaders hard at work then, was that score with your 1150/1650 OC?

Thanks buddy, yes it was.

Hey moey and welcome :) You got a bargain at the price you
paid for your lightning! Would have picked up one myself for that price. Impressed with that heaven score, what settings was that at?

So far i have not had a problem pushing the core on the pcs, i just need more voltage. 1180 seems to be the sweet spot on mine for daily use, the custom fan setup in msi afterburner has helped as well. Fan speed stays at at 30% until the card reaches 42 degress then starts to ramp up as temperatures rise.

I didn't get much done tonight, in fact, I ran one bench test and went out.. Have been out in a good couple weeks due to this new pc, it's killed my social life! But I want to see how I can compare to them scores of Moey!

No worries savage enjoy that Fresh air :D Moeys score was really good, will have a go tommorow as well to see if i can match it. His settings would be a good barometer for you as well.
