Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

I expect it will be the same as most 250 frames and fit a KK in the middle fine. Attached with some sticky foam pads though, as the mounting holes won't be there for 50mm boards (not a problem, and actually adds some vibration dampening).

Cool, will get the frame ordered then atleast, and will decide between a Naze32 and a KK.

Just watched a Naze32 soldering video, doesnt look too bad. But still would prefer to leave the soldering iron in the draw.

Anyways, ordered the frame

Some more flying at lunch time today. Joys of the office being out in the sticks. Loss of empty space to practice in. Been trying the I.O.C stuff out. Course lock looks to be the useful.

Someone point me in the basic direction of FPV for my Q450 please!

Got a Go Pro Hero 3+ which I can use and have seen I can splice together a cable etc.

Need RX/TX and either screen or googles etc - any pointers as a starting point. Cheaper end of the scale is good!!

Would also like some info on this :) as eventually I will be putting an FPV kit on my DJI F450

I would be looking at resonably priced (not expensive) if I can, with good range, and any screen/goggle reccomendations

I bought the Fat Shark Predator V2 kit from HobbyKing global warehouse. Worked out at about £240 after tax and postage for goggles, 250mw vtx with camera and a couple of CP antenna. The cheapest place I could find it in the UK was £270.

That's about the cheapest you will find a goggles setup. You can go cheaper still if you use a screen or the DIY screen based goggles HK sell.

Might be too much what im looking at paying, I somehow thought a kit would be cheaper than that, guess not, I would prefer the goggles, is it better to have those than the screen?

What sort of range can you get with this set-up? are there any reccomended alternatives or other kits that work out cheaper?

Well the fatshark preditor V2 I means was a bit too much out of budget, assumed the other links were similar prices

Goggles vs screen is up to you. Both work fine. There's a few guys in here that have screens mounted on their radios so they can fly using both FPV and LOS.

I have goggles because I tried some and liked them. A mate uses a set while another mate uses a screen.

As for range, it's up to the strength of the vtx. 250mw should do a KM or so, whereas the 600mw ImmersionRC one will get you to the next town :p

Am I right in thinking everything in that Fatshark kit is what you need, but the 600ImmersionRC one is an upgrade to the kits 250mw vtx?

I will have a think about it, obviously budget is my main priority here. Unfortunatly I need to be a little strict on myself, if possible

I was looking to either buy a kit I could use on both the DJI F450 and my 250 build, if this is possible, assuming that they are easy to just swap between models.

The option of having a screen would be ok, if I could use LOS too, but the goggle effect would be super cool

check this out - looks a bit cheaper

A general listing there. That's what I might work towards

I use a screen for FPV, while it is useful to be able look up sometimes I find it difficult to "zone" back into the screen afterwards sometimes

I have to look at the screen and nothing else to keep myself focused but that might just be me

I'd like to try some goggles at some point

Same here. I can't wear goggles though due to my glasses prescription. I have a very strong myopia and a bad astigmatism in my right eye, so unless I find a friendly optician who will make me some lenses for the goggles, I am **** out of luck.

Benefits of the screen are;
I can do LOS landings with no disorientation from changing between the two
If a *friendly* dog comes up to me, it doesn't surprise me
Nobody can sneak up behind me and nick my stuff
I can easily show the invariably curious public what's going on
No odd sensations as my eyes aren't telling me one thing and my ears another

Drawbacks;
Easy to break concentration and flip back to LOS only to realise the m-copter is 2 fields away and I can't get orientation back

Screen isn't always the brightest, especially on a sunny day.

Lack of complete immersion

I have found though, that sitting down and turning away from where I'm flying helps to stop me trying to look up at the quad.

Oh, one final thing;

I didn't realise this but Fatshark/Immersion and Boscam/Flysight/Blackpearl use different protocols for the transmission of the data stream. Some gear doesn't play well with others. Especially the Immersion 600mw vtx with the Blackpearl Monitor. There are now 2 different versions of the Blackpearl - one for Immersion VTX and one for Boscam/Flysight.

You will still get a picture when the channels are correct but it seriously affects range, apparently.

Cool thanks for the info, sounds good, valid points there for positive and negative

Do you have a kit list? What's the quality of the video like? That's one thing I was worried about things like screen brightness and possible LOS distractions

But I would want the option to land in that manner aswel as fpv

Also can you record your fpv video feed easily ?

Good to hear I'm not the only one finding FPV disorientating and difficult to get into the zone of. I haven't yet got the hang of putting myself "inside" the craft, and hearing it fly by messes my head up a bit. It will come with practice though I'm sure.

Where I live it only takes less than a minute to walk into a field that's about the size of 4 football pitches

So last night with having installed some 12 v strip l.e.ds The night before I decided to go for a quick night flight

My lady decided to watch from the bedroom window and could hear and see people on the street watching going wtf is that

Only being living there a fortnight and I'm starting a ufo conspiracy

Might add more leds tonight to the underneath of the arms

Also had a look on hobbyking last night for some led control boards which were 3 quid each but turns out they come from America so works out an extra 20 quid for delivery so didn't bother

Mine is:

Blackpearl Monitor (32 channel version) (£155)
Boscam TS351 200mw VTX on my 250 H and 300 Spider Hex (£15)
Flysight 400mw VTX on my 330 Spider Hex (£60)
IBCrazy Bluebeam Ultra Antennas (£45)
Mobius Action camera for HD recording
PZ0420 FPV camera on all 3

Really, the video quality from the FPV camera is not of a quality where you want to record from it unless you absolutely have to or need to for some reason. Some goggles have a DVR built in. The Blackpearl monitor does not but you can buy DVR recorders that plug into the monitor, dunno how expensive these are though.

IF you are going for reasonable range, good antennas are worth much more than a more powerful VTX.

To be fair, the BP monitor is plenty bright enough unless you are stood with full, bright sunlight directly on it. It does come with a plastic sunshade (rubbish) but I broke mine, so replaced it with a fold-able material one (much better imho)

Hearing it fly past closely gives me the fear, especially when I'm staring at the screen. I've gashed my finger pretty badly on the props a couple of times now and that has made me very wary of the potential for injury!
