Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Recieved my Diatone Silver Blade 250 Frame kit today, pretty impressed for £20

250frame.jpg

This will be a nice addition to my 450 model

Mine is:

Blackpearl Monitor (32 channel version) (£155)
Boscam TS351 200mw VTX on my 250 H and 300 Spider Hex (£15)
Flysight 400mw VTX on my 330 Spider Hex (£60)
IBCrazy Bluebeam Ultra Antennas (£45)
Mobius Action camera for HD recording
PZ0420 FPV camera on all 3

Really, the video quality from the FPV camera is not of a quality where you want to record from it unless you absolutely have to or need to for some reason. Some goggles have a DVR built in. The Blackpearl monitor does not but you can buy DVR recorders that plug into the monitor, dunno how expensive these are though.

IF you are going for reasonable range, good antennas are worth much more than a more powerful VTX.

To be fair, the BP monitor is plenty bright enough unless you are stood with full, bright sunlight directly on it. It does come with a plastic sunshade (rubbish) but I broke mine, so replaced it with a fold-able material one (much better imho)

Hearing it fly past closely gives me the fear, especially when I'm staring at the screen. I've gashed my finger pretty badly on the props a couple of times now and that has made me very wary of the potential for injury!

Thanks only just seen this :) I think the price tag above is creeping up on the fatshark kit a tad. I will have a think, I guess its all down to if you want a screen, or goggles.

Been for a flight today with the DJI F450

And also just purchased some more bits for my 250 build, although the Naze was out of stock, and this outlet only stocked the 4 channel (8 with conversion) frsky reciever.

Guess I will have to order those seperatly.

2.720Kg. That's with dual 4s 5000Mah. Still have top section of frame to add, GCU, PMU, GPS, FPV VTX and props.

After much talk on various DJI F550 and multi rotor groups I'm thinking of leaving the F550 and getting a Tarot 680 pro. It's bigger, will transfer all my kit, Naza V2, Zenmuse H3-3D, GoPro Hero 3 Black, FrSky X8R, 6x 4s 5000 mAh 20c Turginy Lipos and strobes.

What are you going to gain by going to a bigger frame before flying the 550 ? ;)

At end of day it's still gopro camera platform... though I guess in theory you could get away with carrying a nex5 possibly, but then you are back into weight issues and short flight times.

edit: scrap that question, will let you run much bigger props so in theory more flight time... you will need I suspect different motors ?, gonna be expensive.

You are going to have a uphill struggle to beat 550 flight time though without a lot of experimenting. If you cannot easily beat approx 13mins 550 single batt flight time then you won't of gained anything, except maybe a slightly more stable camera platform due to increase in size.

My F550 frame is now using the extended aluminium arms with some bigger motors and APC 12" props - I do also have some Cam Carbon 11.5" ones too that I've yet to try.

Love the T-Motor MN3110's - a lot of power but I've yet to figure out decent config battery wise for flight times.

It does weigh a shade over 3kg all up though with the gopro etc on there!

Tiger props are insanely expensive for what they are - probably makes up most of the cost!

The MN3110's I have were about £38.50 each I believe so hardly cheap I know but not a touch on some of the even lower kV motors T-Motor produce!

£770 for a T960 build minus the FC.

I think I could get £400 back for the frame, case, landing gear of my F550 so far.

Send back the 4's to HK for refund and get 6's

Lots of T960 are getting 20 min flights. Someone has tested a stock F550 E300 nothing but the wheel with 4s for 27 mins

Going to upgrade my Multiwii with GPS to a Naza-M Lite with GPS. Seems like a lot less hassle in dialling in good settings and may allow me to progress my flying a bit. Also there is the option to bump the firmware to V2.

You can hack the Lite to take the V2 firmware. It works (I've tried it) but I'm not sure on the legality of it.

I also got my Diatone Silver Blade 250 on Friday. Lovely little thing.

:D

You have more money than me.... heh

So basically you are selling your 550 gopro platform before it's flown for a heavy lift platform.

Don't bother with something so big unless you are going to buy a decent camera for it... it might have a great flight time, but that's because a bird that size is not meant to carry a gopro as a payload.

I suspect even a T960 once it has a Nex5 or DSLR / suitable Gimbal on is going to go right back at similar flight time to 550.

It is cool having such a large machine though... gives plenty of options for the future no doubt

I'm sticking with 550 as I don't fly much, don't do commercial work, and missus would not allow me to spend any more lmao

Where I live it only takes less than a minute to walk into a field that's about the size of 4 football pitches

So last night with having installed some 12 v strip l.e.ds The night before I decided to go for a quick night flight

My lady decided to watch from the bedroom window and could hear and see people on the street watching going wtf is that

Only being living there a fortnight and I'm starting a ufo conspiracy

Might add more leds tonight to the underneath of the arms

Also had a look on hobbyking last night for some led control boards which were 3 quid each but turns out they come from America so works out an extra 20 quid for delivery so didn't bother

You don't live in Trowbridge by any chance do you? I was out flying on Saturday morning and the field I was flying in backs onto houses. A couple of people mentioned to me that some hooligan had been out night flying recently and they wondered what it was :D

So I finally got a day to myself after endless work commitments and had my first go at fpv flying... It turns out it is just as much fun as I had expected it to be.

I did a little reading when I got home though and it appears I am situated about 4km into a cat D airspace, after reading through the regs that govern fpv I'm a little confused, it states that fpv in cat A B C and D airspace is not allowed without permission but I don't use understand if that is only for platforms over 7kg, have video recording functionality or just fpv in general. I'm leaning towards if they have video recording functionality but I'm not entirely sure.

Decided to stack my Phantom into a tree after a rogue gust of wind. Fortunately, I have the Inspire to take it's place whilst the P2 is off for a fix up

Was going to ask if anyone had done this, wasnt sure on forums rules regards doing this kind of thing.
Any way, did mine last & it flies a lot better. Take off is different but it just seems that much more stable.
Just thinking of getting the V2 PMU(?) & the CAN bus hub :)

Whats broken on it?

Lisapete, I dont see why your going through all that effort for what seems like not much gain.

more money, hassle on swapping out, is it correct you have not flown the F550 yet?

Agree.
If you don't fly the small stuff and get confident, you will be terrified once you have £3k in the air. Get your wings on the F550 and fly it every week for a few months. Then you will be in a better position to understand what you want from a multirotor.

One of the rotors clicks and spins infrequently. When I pulled it out of the mini stream, it spun up but stuttered and now if can't generate enough lift. Oddly, someone on the forums had a similar issue and the ESC was replaced.

I might try a battery drain at idle tonight to see if I can clear the glitch. Prop is probably shafted too (no pun intended).
