Hi all. I have noticed a 8TB drive is on the market now! I'm wondering if/when/by how much this will effect the price of smaller capacity drives.

I haven't noticed a great deal of movement on price for small / mid size drives over the past few months?

I wouldn't count on it making a lot / if any difference. Hard drives prices at the low end always remain reasonably static, as most of the cost is made up of physical materials + hidden costs such as distribution.

At some point demand drops off for lower end drives e.g. 250Gb is the lowest available, 500gb is more readily available and the 500gb will decrease to the price point of the 250gb.

The introduction of higher end models doesn't normally affect anything, as they are normally just priced above anything existing.

That is a shame, I was hoping that the price of 2/3 tb drives will start to decrease at some point. See what you mean about the lower sized models filtering away - I guess in a few years the smallest may well be 1tb and the price comparable to todays 250 / 500 drives.

Mid-range capacities tend to fall a little, i haven't seen the 1Tb drive prices drop in years though. Don't be expecting the 4Tb drives to drop under £100 anytime soon :).

We are nearly at the pre-flood price levels so they don't move much now, rarely see good special offer deals aswell. Pays to shop around though.

I am hoping to see a slight drop in HDD prices over the next few months,if production in Thailand is now back to normal then hopefully that will help saturate the market with goods and lead to price reductions overall.
