****The Nintendo 3DS Thread****

I got Monster Hunter 4 today and have to say I'm really impressed so far as I wasn't really expecting much as I didn't like Monster Hunter 3 but this seems to play much better.

Just have to wait for my New 3DS XL with Majoras Mask to arrive tomorrow and I'll be happy.

Ordered my MM XL from the forest, they sent it via Royal Mail who decided to leave it on my doorstep while I was at work, luckily it was ok.

Not noticed any poorer quality in the MM version compared to my old XL, there's less "floppyness" in the hinge than the older one, and doesn't make the annoying click sound when changing angle that reminds me of my knees going.

After getting worried about new SD + MM pre-install and old XL account it turned out pretty straight forward. Just installed new 32gb mSD, transfered old account straight to that and re-downloaded MM pretty quickly.

Folks, any decent guides about how to port over from old to new 3DS all the details?

Here's the official link ... I did it by wifi and it was pretty painless and took maybe an hour and a half. Depends how much data you need to transfer ; all of my games are in physical format.

Apologies for the portrait video, truly... :(

Seems like there's more play there than there should be.

See what I mean about the marks on the buttons? The the right of the A and left of the Y. That's an hours use, there, and I'm very gentle with my tech;

I know people are excited about the new console and all, and overall I really do think it's great, but I still maintain it's not up to scratch in the build quality department.

Think I might head down to game tomorrow and trade in my red original 3DS. Do I go XL or not that is the question!

I picked up the XL and don't regret it one bit. Bigger screen is really nice compared to the regular 3DS. If it wasn't for the faceplates on the regular model I wouldn't even slightly consider it.

So nice to be replaying Majoras Mask after so long - I really liked ALBW but MM is just a far more engaging experience for me.

They don't flop about, they just have a little play with them. If yours doesn't then it's been over tightened.

Ah well my N3DS hinge, while requiring little pressure to open and close, doesn't really have any play at all even while locked in viewing position. It's a bit like the second console shown in this video.

I'm not sure if mine has been 'over tightened' though - after a quick search it seems normal for the regular n3ds to have no or very little play on the hinge, and it apparently has a softer lock into viewing positions compared to previous models. I can't find any info that suggests having no play on the regular n3ds hinge is considered a fault.

I am leaning towards the XL, never owned one and I do generally prefer the a bigger display. Don't suppose anyone has traded in at game, I've got the box for my original 3DS box in the loft would I need that to trade in and do they require the charger (original one came with one)?. Also are they mega picky about condition? Screen's and general condition of it is fine apart from when my 4 year old at the time decided to nibble the end of the stylus and put some marks on the screen surround which to this day I don't know how she managed it. Works fine though! :D

My local GAME has demo units for both N3DS & N3DSXL, might be worth checking out for anyone unsure which model to go for.

The screen on the New 3DS is a little larger than on the old 3DS, but yes the XL is still a good bit bigger.
I can see why many prefer the XL - I'm sure it's more comfortable to hold for long periods too. I went for the N3DS as I prefer the smaller size & screen but I do find myself having to rest my right thumb for a minute after a 2 hour session. My thumb is adapting though, as it used to get sore after 30-40 mins :p.

Mr postman left at 5:48am today so I should get it.

Also someone mentioned you got to take the back off to put in a sd card, is it easy to do?

The back plate is quite flimsy, so it bends and warps when you try and pry it off which can be a bit disconcerting. The regular n3DS looks far easier to remove the plates on.
