I think my SSD is dying

Hey guys, So I've been having issues the past few weeks with my SSD, It's almost 3 years old so it's had a good life.

It's been booting my PC a lot slower than usual and programs have been booting slow.

This morning i woke up and turned on the PC and after i got past the BIOS it said something along the lines of "Windows is repairing (C) drive"

Now the drive that is faulting is the one with the OS on and some small files such as Skype, Nvidia drives etc, Nothing major really.

When i purchase my new SSD tomorrow is their a way i can copy all data from the dying SSD to the new SSD?

So that i don't have to do a fresh install of windows 8.1.

Is their any software or anything?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Cheers, Jamie

Hmm to be honest if i get a new drive for my os i always do a clean install.
Backup what you can while you can.

You can ghost a drive and restore it using a number of different programs.

Acronis true image is one i know of but their are many others.
Norton ghost is another but i stay away from anything norton related.

if there is nothing you need or you cannot re download then I would just do a clean install

what SSD is it your having the issue with?

make sure the firmware on the SSD is up to date as this can fix issues with booting and the ssd not working properly.

Samsung 830 series is the drive i'm having the issue with.

I've done a check with Samsung Magician it says the drive is healthy.

But it can't be because almost every boot up now it says Scanning and repairing Drive C.

First time it took almost a hour, Now it takes around 5 mins to boot.

I thought maybe i had a virus or something, I used Malwarebytes, Nothing came back and i used my other virus scanners and nothing has been detected.

So it has to be on it's way out.

have you done a OS re install at all?

it could be a issue with the OS if there is issues with files

try running this from command prompt as a admin

sfc /scannow

just trying to think of things to save you buying a new SSD but I am sure that will fix the issue as well

It's very possible that windows is FUBAR whereas the 830 is fine. Windows likes to repair my C drive (also on an 830), despite there never being anything wrong with it.

I would create a system image file on a seperate drive, then do a fresh windows install and see how it behaves.

Ended up getting the Samsung 850 Evo and it's much faster than the old drive and everything works perfectly now, must have been the drive after all on the way out.

I did a fresh install after all, I was going to copy data but decided not to.

Much faster now, Boot's in 8 seconds!

could have just been windows going weird like the others said, at least you got a nice shinny new SSD now! Please try the old one again though, try installing some games on it and see how it behaves, I'd like to know if it was on it's way out now or not :)

I'll try it later on tonight and let you know.

Just tried Dying Light on the SSD, Having some troubles with it starting up i get a black screen with no audio for around 2 mins.

Then it goes to the intro and gets stuck on the WB logo.

Pretty sure it is the SSD on it's way out.

You said that you have had it for just under 3 years if so it has warranty still so try and RMA it.
