Thanks, I went back but its still not available on the board.. I can only think that because I took the Banki one that you cant have more than one active.

Ill go back to Banki as the CZ is right next to the terminal anyway, so its a bit more handy.

Weird. I had the supply metals to yembo, as well as the BD+03 one. Maybe something up with having 2 conflicts going at once?

Really? Damn. I cashed in about 500k's worth at the outpost in the conflict zone system. I take it they won't count towards the goal then?

I have always returned to Khasiri.... Check in your tab and see if you have contributed to the cause. I am in the top 40%

Hmmm, that's annoying!

I took on a mission to retrieve 3 rebel data transmissions from a nearby system and while I think I've done it, I can't seem to collect the reward!?!?

Can someone tell me where I've gone wrong:

- Traveled to the system in question and supercruised around looking for "Unidentified Signal Sources"
- Locked on and dropped out of supercruise and after a few seconds I got some comms text at the top left of my screen telling me (I think) that I'd completed things
- Someone scanned my ship and started shooting so I legged it (I assume because the mission said it was "considered" illegal!)
- I wasn't sure if I had completed or needed two more as the mission asked for 3 - so I stayed in the system and went to around 10 more USS's - none of which pinged anything - they just weren't there when I came out of supercruise!?!?
- Anyway, I then gave up and went back to the Eravate system where I got the mission but when I go to the bulletin board, the text read "I can see your mission was a success Commander, thank the stars. The data you retrieved should prove invaluable in helping us to clear this mess up. I just hope we can do it without any more lives being lost in the process"
- Try to click the "Give Cargo" button but it's red and I can't select i!t!?!?!?

There was mention of an "alternative delivery option" on the mission description but I'm certain that I was at the right station and it was definitely controlled by the Eravate faction!?!?

Can anyone tell me if I've done anything fundamentally wrong here or could it just be a bug?? :(

Stick with it, commander.

Do a search for crab's thrustmaster setup. He's created a great custom config for the Thrustmaster and produced a config file you can just drop into a folder in the Elite directory. He's also created a pdf with the controls on it to help get you acquainted with it.

Thanks for the advice. I did find that late last night and tried it, but it still doesn't seem to fix the issue of the yaw and L/R thrusters. I can either Yaw or I can strafe but, it won't allow me to setup both independently or concurrently ..?

The daft thing is it's on different sticks so I'm not sure why it's even conflicting. The thruster triggers are on the throttle and the Yaw/rudder on the pitch stick.

That said, the controls are the least of my problems as even starting missions is difficult. Accepted a mission (I think) from the bulletin board and have no clue how start it or how to get where I'm supposed to go. The manual doesn't seem to be very intuitive in this respect either and looking at the amount of people moaning about this on Frontiers boards, I'm not the only one. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in to hand holding games but, I would at least like some in game guidance to actually get me started... (kind of reminds me of WoW back in the day where you were dropped in without a clue as what to do and had to ask and learn).

Are there any really good noob guides for starting off from scratch do you know?

Thanks again

Good choice of music and nice vid. I managed to spend around 2-3 hours in one hit there and picked up 666,000 in bonds and didn't use a single shield cell. I stuck close to the ship and pretty much stole plenty of kills. I am still around 6 mill down from when I started but it makes a nice change from trading and is helping improve my combat. I must remember to use reverse like you do as well.

Yeah it's certainly good fun, I really love throwing the Anaconda around all over the place - it's actually surprisingly nimble once you get used to it, but I can only afford B thrusters atm, (Pretty much A on everything that matters)

And yeah - FA-off reverse with 4 pips in engine, is by far the fastest way to stop imo.

I learnt that if you have FA on, and you go to full reverse - your reverse thrusters only stop you and don't fire fully until you stop, with FA-off - they fire 100% in the opposite direction, so you stop much quicker.

Press "2" this will bring up the Target panel on the left. Use your Next Panel Tab control to select the Transactions tab. Any missions you are on are listed here, along with any bounties or contracts you have collected.

Use the UI Panel controls to select the mission, and then press Panel Select to select the mission.

It will show you the details of the mission such as where you need to go, what cargo you need to collect or deliver, the reward for completing the mission, and how much time you have left to complete the mission.

There is quite a bit to learn in this game, but try to take it slow and not get too wound up by it.

When I first started, I was using the mouse and keyboard to play and I wrote all the controls down on a sheet of paper. Half my time was spent peering at that list rather than at the screen!

Once you get your sticks setup how you like you'll start building muscle memory for the controls and you'll be flicking through fire groups, changing targets and carrying out Flight Assist Off turns without thinking about it.

Take a look in your Transactions tab - it will tell you the state of the mission, if you have enough cargo, and where to take it.

Brilliant, thanks for that. I have been writing down what is mapped to where and like you say, I'm constantly peering down. When I was in dock though (where I started), I had to keep going to the controls menu to see what did what and nothing seems obvious.
Just on a tangent from this: Can I assign the same buttons to different aspects of the controls. For example, can I assign the same buttons for when inflight and when in dock without causing a conflict? Or will it not let me do that?

ED isn't a game for jumping in to and I expected it to be complicated with a slow learning curve due to the nature of it being a sim but, it would have been nice to at least have had a walkthrough of the basics.

No doubt it'll come :)

Yup - the controls really are configurable.

I use Fire 1 on my stick to fire my primary weapons as well as select stuff in the UI. Fire 2 is secondary weapons and Back in the UI. I use one of the hats for head look in the cockpit and scrolling around the galaxy map.

There has been a lot of pressure from the community to NOT make the game easily accessible, I wouldn't expect much to change on that front.

That said, once you've cracked the basics, it's pretty plain sailing.

Tempted to install it as I'm off today....can I just chuck a few mods on a sidey and go exploring or will I have to grind trade for hours before doing anything?

I feel your pain my friend! I'm a beginner on this game too and there is so much freedom that I'm never 100% sure of what to do and how to do it without some help!

Regards the HOTAS X though, I've just got one myself and Googled a mapping setup which I'm just tweaking here and there to fit my style!

It makes it much better imo - in that you have to engage brain to be able to do anything,

People are too used to playing games, where a thing appears every 2 seconds saying "press W to move forward" "press ctrl to duck" etc, when you have something you actually have to figure out - some people are freaked out by it, but I for one love it, gives you a real sense of accomplishment when you manage to succeed at something :)

I loved having to find my feet and figure everything out for myself.

It makes it all so much more rewarding when you're pedal to the metal to get in to the space station with 15% hull and seconds of oxygen remaining.

I was pretty much the same as this and assumed it was bugged or something, as I had picked up the cargo I was instructed to do from a USS in the sytem I was told to be at.... Now, maybe easier if I explained what I was doing wrong...

My mission was to pick up 3 cannisters of rebel transmissions from such a place... I picked up 3 cannisters of military plans.

I did this a couple of times as well doh!!!

When you get the correct items, return to the place you accepted the mission and give them the cargo and it will be mission complete. Don't forget to open your cargo scoop and pick the cargo up gently :)

I see what you mean but my understanding was that in my case it wasn't to pick up "cannisters" of transmissions but rather "intercept" them - ie. when I dropped out of supercruise something "pinged" and I got the comms top left telling me that I'd done what I needed to (there weren't any cannisters floating around as far as I could see!)

This was supported by the fact that the mission on the bulletin board seemed to suggest that I'd done what was necessary - it was just the "Give Cargo" button that was "redded-out"!?!?!

Wahay, I docked. I feel like a 5 year old at Christmas. What a feeling :D

Took a lot of trial and error finding out what buttons did what.

:D

I'd definitely recommend trying this setup for your HOTAS X - there is a nice printable reference sheet too!

The only tweak I've made so far is to remap the vertical thrust to the POV hat so docking is loads easier!

That's the exact setup I'm using Stevie. Docking is extremely simple with the vertical and horizontal thrusters but I still cannot get the L/R trigger on my throttle stick to be assigned the L/R thrusters or it removes Yaw. I have to use the KB.

It's a pain.

Also, is it worth taking on illegal missions early on for more creds? Got one offering 5000 for intercepting transmissions?

Or is it easier and safer to do a few transport runs first?
