Loaded this game up for the first time last night, i had purchased the game a while back but wanted to wait until 1.1.

Decided to play it oldskool with keyboard only and some minor mouse intervention on the galaxy map.

Due to the incomplete nature of the game I decided to stick to trading and I am very impressed by the flying mechanics and the general polish of the game in this context.

I can see from the posts above there there is some frustration at the mile-wide-inch-deep approach however, I would be surprised if this was the case same time, next year.

As it stands I think this game could be one of the greatest of its type, it just needs the addtional plug in modules.

This. I haven't played since launch yet, as I'm pretty sure I would get bored very quickly.

I am concerned that they don't have the funding to make a proper game out of what is a very promising engine....time will tell I suppose.

Just made my first 1,000,000 :D

Solely by trading, now question i have is im assuming a Type-6 is the logical upgrade from the Cobra, mine is currently outfitted to allow 50T of cargo, but im only making ~55000-80000, on the little run i have.

Not played it yet as well. Original Elite player in the 80's. Backed on KS so the game is waiting till i have a pc able to run it. All they need to do is keep the sales coming.

why this is not on steam I dont know it would sell like hot cakes on it.

I'm getting worried about Elite tbh..

I know what you mean.

The game is basically a remake of Frontier, but with less content; Frontier had much more ships, passenger transport missions (add taxi driver to the list of occupations!), photo-reconnaissance missions, nuclear strike missions, planetary landings... all squeezed onto a 1.44 MB floppy disk!

I loved Frontier and I love Elite: Dangerous but the lack of an end-game does concern me. I already have two friends who have stopped playing and who say that they'll be back "in a year when there's more content"; will they return, and if do will there be enough added content to keep them interested? I'm not sure, and that's concerning.

I feel its going to be one of the few "early access" games which I will get more than my moneys worth from (I spent over 400hrs on Rust, for example) and may well leave it before its finished.. I hope not, as I am still really enjoying it and lack of an end game "goal" right now doesn't concern me in the slightest. There is enough to do, and seems to be more ships and content coming along in due course.
I never played Frontier (only thew 1984 game), so I have no expectations for that kind of content. If they incorporate that in ED it will be the icing on the cake though.

Either the Type-6, or if you can get to ~12M, ASP explorer.

Have you tried doing rare trade runs?

Frontier was buggy as hell though. While Elite Dangerous has a few niggles, it is much more stable and has an online universe. It's proving to be an excellent engine and the framework is there to provide a great future for the game. The content will come.

I looked at the ASP, but I'm assuming I'll need quite a lot more to make sure it's outfitted how I would want it!

What are these rare trades, can't say I've heard of these before

Found my first 'decent' little trade route. Managed to get up from no credits to around 140K, and thats with losing fair chunk to damage through interdictions.

Starting to feel like need something with more cargo space than my little viper, but I may just improve my shields, weapons and thrusters and so some bounty hunting

Given up on trying to evade interdictions. Now I just submit, and if the guy is wanted I may take him on, if not, I just run off.

You will need quite a bit more to fit out the t6 to anywhere near the same as your cobra. You will need to move two cargo racks down a slot and fit 16tonne cargo slots and you will need to upgrade the frame shift drive to jump similar distances to your cobra And the you will need the funds to buy 100T of whatever cargo you are hauling. In doing so you will double your income per run. My advice is to have another ship to hand outfitted for combat even just a sidewinder for those moments you cannot face another trade run.

You can keep your Cobra and use it for Rare trade runs. You can easily make 800,000-900,000 an hour doing those. Yes, really! :)

Is there any new Community goals? I quite enjoyed partaking in the last 2.

Not that I know of, they show up on the Galnet feed,

Tbh one of the problems imo, is the fact that we have thousands of populated galaxies, and literally only 1 or 2 things going on at once, and right now there are no community goals.

Totally disappointed atm, I hope it gets a serious injection of soon.

I also think that if you sign up for a warzone, you should get given a ship - PVP is a waste of time because people either log or run away, as losing your big precious ship is just too risky - why not have war zones where you can just get stuck in, die and respawn - maybe it just costs a small fee each time, rather than lose your entire ship... at least it'd be good for PVP

Seems like I should upgrade my cobra to top spec then and not worry about a big ship upgrade until I have silly amount of funds

So how do I go about this rare trade run, I'd quite happily make a run for 800,000

I like the idea of being given a ship to do battle in. For those who are not great at combat or just don't have the ship to participate with can join in and have some fun with no loss and make a few credits whilst at it.

PvP is just not fun. I have legged it a few times, purely as I was all geared for trading and not even close to being combat ready but I would take it like a man (and have done) if I am getting chewed to bits and disconnecting wouldn't happen. I make sure I only play in open play if I have enough credits to rebuy.

As for reputation and rankings....Anyone got any basic help for me? I keep doing loads of missions but not sure if any of them have better rep improvements over another? Should I be avoiding certain one's? Should I be doing certain station missions over another station?

Sorry if they are basic simple questions but I have the hangover from hell (all day session in Holland yesterday) and trying to find simple answers isn't happening. I am in Vega at present (Taylor City) and keep doing all the possible missions that I can but not sure if this is the correct way to go about it.

Well done. I can only dream of making 55-80k on trade runs... Most I'm making atm is about 4-5k :D

Got enough for a hauler now but I'm reticent about buying it as I'll be skint but I guess I've got to speculate to accumulate.

Regarding content and the game in general, does anyone know if planet landing has been mooted to ever becoming a feature? I seem to remember you could do that and there was lots more to do in Frontier, and Elite for that matter. I must admit, I'm enjoying it so far and like the loneliness of traipsing from system to system. Just wish there were more missions and more variation.
