GTX 960 or R9 280 for 1440p

It is's a decent power supply with strong 12v rails it will be fine. In a single card setup you are looking at around ~ 300w under load with everything stock. A used 290 is better than basically everything else in the this price range.

With a 290 tri-x overclocked (100mv) my 4670k at 4.5, all watercooled, I see just over 400W at the wall, thats on firestrike combined, so pretty much max everything.

Having a 7970.. Really ? lol

Sorry it offends you that I did not choose to drop 1k on two graphics cards to be cool like you... lol

I will wait and get some new tech shortly likely in the shape of a Radeon 390 ;)

sorry it offended you that I did not chose a website that was on your approved list for benchmarks.

Enjoy your 390 when it comes.

Just hope it does not come with an AIO cooler or it will make the GTX 980 look like a bargain.:D

I would like a AIO, as long as the performance is there and it does not make a huge difference to the price. Though those two likely don't go well together. lol. One can hope :D

Worst case I will pick up a 290 on mm for £150 until proper 16nm card comes out in 2016 :(

My guess is we are unlikely to see the flagship card with an AIO cooler as this would make using 3 or 4 of them very difficult. I know this would only effect a few people but I think AMD would want to see some 3 and 4 way builds for the publicity and benchmarks.

Agreed. That makes complete sense. I never truly believed it would be a AIO cooler only, at most it could be like a option where that version would have better cooling/clocks and cost a bit more.

You lot are getting way off topic. OP did not ask to hear about the 390.

So..

+1 vote for 280 if buying new.
+1 vote for second hand 290 if not.
