If you had unlimited money.....

something beefy but whisper quiet. No SLI, no watercooling, Couple of massive SSD's in the rig and some sort of synology NAS thing with like 32TB worth of data storage

Rofl you almost perfectly described one of my old rigs, cept i had the 9800 modded to the pro. Im still using that case with my current rig.

I had very similar but Barton 2500 Mobile, NF7S Rev 2 in an ATCS 201 B with a Ford Sierra radiator bolted to the desk as a rad.

Hehe always wanted to try that my self, but i move around a lot so couldnt really do it, i just banged a phase change cooler on the CPU instead. Made the whole thing a little on the heavy side though.

Thats what i would do if i had unlimited money for a PC, go back to phase change cooling, and get a few of the huge custom units made with 2 or 3 stages. Would love to get back into that.

If I had unlimited money my thought process would be if I needed a simple Word Processing machine it would obviously require 4 x 980's

If you get my drift

haha awesome :)

Its cool to see peoples differing opinions. Some would go all out and get the best of the best of everything where as some people would focus more towards storage etc.

I think I would be the sort of person to lean towards building a rig with the best of everything. SLI etc but I wouldn't go down the watercooling route as I have never done it but at least with endless money, I could try it on my current rig before transferring to the new one.

Athlon XP Mobile 2400+ Barton, DFI LanParty NF2 Ultra B, Radeon 9500 modded to a 9700 pro with Arctic VGA Silencer, 2 x 10k rpm raptor in RAID 0, Zalman Reserator, Purple Chieftec Dragon, Logitech Media Keyboard Elite, Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0.

LOL! Talk about a blast from the past! Had a similar rig, except mine was on a Abit NF7 board and was the XP 2500m as it was a monster overclocker. Even down to having the dragon case ;-) (no raptors though, they were silly expensive...)

i would have a super computer that would do all of the F@H wu Stanford could put out instantly. then i would have 4 way binned 980ti lightning sli and a binned 5960x with an ECC Beast LN2 pot sitting on it on a gigabyte soc champion for benching. for my main rig i would just have a triple stage Cascade cooled 6700K with 2 chilled water cooled 980ti hydro coppers.

Dual X99 Xeons
128GB DDR4
Quad Titan X
8 1TB SSD's using a enterprise grade RAID controller

What is with everyone listing random average PCs?
