Talk to me about The Walking Dead

As been said above. It trys to put a realistic spin on it, not every episode will be action packed, the first half of season 2 was a struggle for me, a bit too slow, you won't like all the characters, some will annoy the hell out of you, but I still think its easily one of the best shows around.

I really enjoyed the first series. The rest of it... blah. Some of the Governor stuff was good though.

I'm not normally one for comics and such but the Walking Dead comics are both awesome and infinitely superior to the TV series.

I love this show and have really enjoyed season 5 (I'm up to the break haven't watched further yet). I normally wouldn't bother with anything with zombies. It's a tired format done to death (no pun intended) in both film and especially games. I love this show even though I cannot stand Rick or any of his **** family. After watching 4 series I eventually persuaded the mrs to watch it and I enjoyed the second run through even more. I think it's really well made, with a solid core cast and I love the development of the characters.

Soooo I thought I'd try the comic, Volume 1 read today. My god it's terrible, Game of Thrones feast for crows terrible. Such terrible writing and not even vaguely interesting. I will read another couple of volumes but I can understand fully why they made the changes they did in the tv show.

Second only to BSG for me :D I think this will run for years even when the main cast are all dead or Ricks story finishes. They can just do another State in the US or run the same time frame in London, Spain or where ever.

Just started the first episode of season two. A little girl has gone missing... Let's just say I am not wondering whether they will find her alive or not!

Aaaand I wasn't surprised. At all...nor was I surprised when one guy spent an entire episode wandering around in the woods struggling to survive, and when he made it back was shot in the head!

I think I've given it enough of a chance now tbh. It's just not very good.

A spinoff is already coming. It's set in LA and apparently covers the time before the first episode of TWD, ie when the zombie plague is just getting started.

Season 5 sucks and I haven't bothered watching the last few episodes even though I have them recorded. And have no enthusiasm to watch them either, pretty sure I'm done.

Another American series they tried stretching out to far, rather than realising what it was and finishing it off in a timely manner.

Pretty much my thoughts on it too.

Fair point about the exploration/gathering side.

I really liked some of the episodes where they were making incursions into city settings, etc. having to plan the route a bit and so on while it can't all be like that (budget reasons none the less) a bit more of that interspersed with some of the deeper side of it, etc. would be far more interesting - the last 3 episodes could have been condensed down into 1 to 1.5 episodes and been far more interesting in that format.

Its a very hit and miss show - when its good I love it and I still wait impatiently for the next episode but far too much of it is relentlessly bleak or tedious.

+1

Season 1 = good
Season 2 = the weakest imo
Season 3 = Fair to quite good
Season 4 = As above
Season 5 = As above

If I saw them again, I may well think differently. :p :D

All in all, I think it's worth watching, but it does peak and trough quite a lot.

From what I understand the series follows the comics pretty much, so not stretching the storyline just following it :)

It certainly deviates a fair bit and the pacing used in the comics really doesn't translate well to the screen.

To be honest the comics have gone on for too long too though. I stopped reading them not far after where the TV series is up to now.

i am really enjoying the tv show though it at times does slow down quite a bit. they as a group go through quite a lot and it is interesting to see how they survive. what happens next. up to season 5 and really looking forward to seeing what happens next. i can see why some wouldn't like it but for me part of its appeal is its simple to follow and doesn't try too hard :)

I think this is a brilliant show. I'm up to date with the series and have found the pacing just right for me. There were a couple of filler episodes from seasons 2, 4 and this current season but I can understand their reasons for including to develop characters. If you are after action after action then this isn't the show for you.

I'm not after action, just interesting characters and scenarios... And maybe something not totally predictable to happen every now and then.

Im gonna finish season two I think... Though how much longer they can drag this whole Rick vs Shane thing out for I don't know!. And I'm watching them all in a row. Can't imagine what it was like being drip-fed this week by week.

I think you will love this show even more as season 2 draws to a close and season 3 brings a new setting and characters.

Just finished season 2. Not a bad ending, just very predictable and I didn't find it as dramatic as it was meant to be.

The show needs to focus more on interaction with other survivors, scavenging and rebuilding. As it is, the show is just 'who's gonna die this week'.

I still enjoy it, I love the setting and the zombies themselves and that carries a lot of it. There have been some total filler episodes though and it can be slow. I can totally understand the criticisms people have.

I gave up after somewhere early in season 4 or late season 3.

OP, I agree completely, the bleakness of it all is a bit relentless, plus I was watching Boardwalk Empire and Sons of Anarchy at the same time, TWD was just a little too much gloom! (Gave up on all three actually, although back to watching BWE now).

If season 1 didn't grab you then I wouldn't bother watching. Plenty of good series out there to get into.

Started season 3.

1. Andrew Lincoln really stepped up.
2. David Morrisey is brilliant.
3. The laughs keep on coming. I love the bit where
Lori gives birth, dies, then is shot in the head by her son.... At the same time that other guy is being torn apart.
4. There is a new character called Michonne iirc. Terrible so far, and really badly acted.

She becomes one of my favourites. The only thing that irritates me with her is how she enters rooms/buildings expecting trouble with the katana on her back sheathed and the hand on the hilt.

Draw the ****ing sword! You are in close quarters, get the sword ready!

If you like the Governor I can't recommend the book series rise of the governor highly enough. A great series on how he get's to his position.
