Nvidia: what I want to share with you will redefine the future of gaming.

I think this will all depend on how well it works and when it will be available.

Now I haven't tried a VR headset for probably 10 years or more, so I'm sure the technology has moved on a good way since then. I've heard good things about the Oculus
Rift, but people say it isn't quite right yet. If NVidia can show us a product that works well and then tell us exactly when you can buy one and for how much they could be on to a winner.

As usual we will have to wait and see.

Hmmm, I think if nVidia locks themselves into compatibility with their own hardware and it flops, there would be issues to say the least. With so many headsets being developed, whichever one gains the largest userbase will drive forward GPU's imo. So if nVidia locks themselves out and it causes AMD sales to spike due to wider compatibility, I could see a huge backlash.

Time will tell and I do hope they are all cross platform, so we can choose what we want.

@bru - Same for me with VR. The last time I tried it though was around 20 years ago and it worked nice but didn't half hurt my eyes lol.

One of the Things I can see being an issue, is that myself I wear Glasses with varifocal lenses. this means that something that close is completely blurred and unreadable. I have no idea how a VR headset will work of for me.
It is an issue with 3D glasses as well but at least then the screen is 10 feet away.

Well technically, even if it is locked to nVidia and you wouldn't want to support that, you would then be locking yourself into AMD. When there is only 2 choices, it is one or the other. I understand where you are coming from and I also hope it is a cross platform thing but if it is an nVidia only thing, I will happily buy it.

Except Intel are not either of those two options, plus any of the people trying to come from the mobile space.

Meh, if it is a VR headset then I'm not really interested.

When I game I just want to sit down at my desk with mouse and keyboard and a nice, high-res monitor, not bothered by all this VR stuff to be honest.

If they can figure out a way for you not to look a complete tit while playing I'll be fully on board. :D

It is exactly this, the idea of a holodeck is great, things like the Wii mote, Kinect 1/2, move and VR are all ok but if it requires you to be physically able to jump and run swinging your arms about then it just isn't going to work for everybody.
Most gamers I know just want to sit there and play the game, immersion is a good thing but being too physical isn't.

For me if I have a game of boxing on the Wii I need to sit down for 20 mins after words And I thought Gaming was supposed to be fun. :)

Is this a vr head set then? Supposed to be unveiled today isn't it?

Pretty sure it is tomorrow? Supposedly coming with the X1 chip as well but not sure how that will work. I don't mind admitting that I am super excited and hope it is close. oculus was my plan but something first will get me.

Oh i dunno, the wife hates the fact i play games on the PC and absolutely refuses to buy our 2 boys anything at all gaming related, no PC, no console, no tablets etc.

If i showed her one of those holodeck things i might be able to blag its exercise while having fun ;) even better if theres a VR learning game on it for the boys hahaha
