Hooked up the Kingston V300 SSD on a MSI K8T 800 Pro, only to find the bios can not detect it....the board has 2 Sata ports and Sata is set to use in the bios, I have even disabled and re-abled them to no avail.....

I had read as the SSD is a 3 transfer rate to alter it to 1.5 but can not find to how to alter it....it does not have any jumpers which people keep refering too.......do I alter it via software on board the SSD by pluging it in to my own PC ??

I have the indentical SSD on my pc and have looked under properties etc and can not find anyway to change the transfer speed :(

Any ideas greatfully received as always...

The transfer speed you are mentioning might be
Sata 6 sata 3 or sata 1
It is all compatible between each other and will run at the slowest speed of the ssd or motherbord in a setup both sata 6 it will run sata 6
Changing it will not fix anything
If SSD will not show in bios it is dead
Replace the sata cable
Replace power cable
If still not visible in bios it is dead

Its not dead it came from my pc to start with and it doesn't get seen by the bios on the K8T it works fine when I plug it back into my own pc which is a later board!!!

I have also replaced the power cable and the sata lead as well...... theres a setting somewhere that needs changing I just need someone to give me an idea on where to look not negatives like its dead!!!! Cos its isn't!!!

This is what I have found and the Asus board uses the same chipset

I think it was an Asus A8V back in the day where I had to limit a WD SATA2 drive to SATA1 using the jumper or else the board wouldn't detect it. The board is so old there may have been a BIOS update since that allowed SATA2 to be plugged in backwards compatible without changing jumpers on the drive.

Seeing as how all SSD drives are either SATAII or III you would need to make sure about this first.

I have looked on the board and can not see any jumpers and I have plugged the SSD back into my pc which is a Z68 D3 and I can not find anyway to slow down the transfer rate to help the board anyone please...??

whats the full make of the mobo is it the neo2?

have you tried the sata 1 port at all?

failing that maybe get a cheap pci sata card?

No its not the Neo2 its the K8T 800 Pro with Via Chipset VT8383
Southbridge VT8237
Running a AMD Athlon 64 3200+ and running 32 bit Win 7

Since found this but none the wiser.......

The 4-in-1 drivers are a collection of periodically updated drivers that provide enhanced VIA chipset support under Microsoft Windows. All VIA chipset users should install the 4-in-1 drivers to improve performance, fix issues, and minimize any incompatibilities.

Editors Note: Differences between 4in1 and 4in1 Pro:

1) The HyperionPro package includes SATA/RAID drivers whilst the Hyperion 4in1 package does not. The extra contents makes the HyperionPro package over 5MB larger than the Hyperion 4in1 package. Therefore if you are not utilizing a VIA SATA or RAID controller in your system, the Hyperion 4in1 package may be a better download choice.

2) The HyperionPro package supports 64 bit Microsoft Windows XP and 64 bit Windows Server 2003 whilst the Hyperion 4in1 package only supports 32 bit operating systems.

3) The HyperionPro package does not contain the IDE Filter driver. For Win9X/ME/2K the IDE filter driver is needed to support UDMA 6. The IDE Filter driver is not needed for WinXP SP1 and later Microsoft operating systems.

Well those drivers are In-OS so no BIOS detection of the SSD makes that irrelevant. I guess the chipset and your SSD firmware just cannot communicate to each other and thus its ignored, be it the lack of a feature to drop transfer rate or just the sheer age of the chipset and its support for devices. You'll likely have to get a PCI Sata card as i'm guessing the only PCIe slot is used for a video card? and it may not even work with a controller card going by the age of the board.

Decision made fed up with faffing about so sticking in ( low mileage so to speak ) 160GB WD HD in to get it up and running and will then wait until we put the house up for sale in September ish and treat us both to a new pc..........Done

Thanks for any help everyone..

Had a Kingston ssd just recently that wouldn't pick up in the BIOS, tried a corsair and that was fine so I guess it was some controller incompatibility?

latest motherboard bios?

all ssd's should be backwards compatible with sata 2 & 1

its usually a mb bios issue if it cant detect the ssd

Doubt an 11yr old board have a BIOS that adds support for current devices :D Though i get your point it may have added something that the previous BIOSes didn't have that might work some magic, though i doubt it.

Same outcome in his other thread in the Windows sub forum.
