Is the gfx divide between the PS4 and XO narrowing?

Just a note for people who might be considering buying a PS4. Don't pay any heed to posters saying it's noisy. It isn't.

Mine is so silent even after extended use, I've put my ear within a few inches of the fan, and can barely, barely hear it.

The fans in the PS4 DO get noisy sometimes but it's not that bad and nowhere near as bad as how loud the 360 disc drive used to be.

Some people are more or less sensitive to sound than others. I don't find my PS4 particularly noisy either in general, but it can be loud sometimes.

Again, at the risk of repeating myself, mine doesn't get loud. And I'm a fussy beggar when it comes to noise.

I've ran TLOUS, COD AW, Driveclub, GTAV, Tomb Raider and AC Black Flag for extended periods, and the PS4 barely even gets warm, never mind hot.

I believe people when they say theirs can get noisy, or loud.

I'm just glad mine doesn't.

I'm looking to buy one of these consoles in the coming months for the arrival of Witcher 3 (I know PC would be best but I'll stick with console for convenience).

Onto the question of gfx, am I likely to notice much gain on the PS4? I know as developers get more time with the hardware results improve, meaning the XO shouldn't be that far behind.

Is there anything that should sway me more to one than the other, e.g. noise?

Well, I wouldn't let graphics power make my choice. Pick the console that will have most of the games that you like as exclusives. That's the first consideration. Then if you are still unsure, pick the one that most of your friends have.

Those are the two biggest factors in picking a console.

Both consoles provide really good graphic quality, the only way you way you would be unhappy is if you compared the two side by side, and even then you really would have to look hard. That's why the graphics quality would be low down on my list of things to consider between the xbox one and the ps4.

And I don't know about your situation, but I am sitting about 10 feet back from a 42 inch 1080p TV, I wouldn't be able to see the difference at that distance anyway. I bet most people in a blind test wouldn't see the difference either.

The gap won't narrow. It might not be something people want to hear, but it really won't narrow. Any improvements the Xbox One will make, the PS4 will make similar ones.

The bottom line is if you're buying an Xbox One, the power difference shouldn't be that much of an issue as you're more than likely buying it for the games you can only get on the Xbox One.

The same reason people buy a Wii U, because of the exclusive Nintendo games only available on the Wii U. It being less powerful for some reason doesn't seem to be argued that much, or people don't seem to think the gap between the Wii U and other consoles will close, because well, it doesn't matter.

If you're mainly bothered about the power of the hardware, buy a PC.

What I meant by that was.. Due to familiarisation with the hardware and coding techniques the software engineers may.. May.. Find a way of squeezing a little more out of the X1.. Assuming the same can't be done for the PS4 then theoretically the gap could narrow.

The hardware will generally ensure that the PS4 is always ahead tho.

I would never advise someone to buy a system because the controller is comfortable.. But it is a good start and a step in the right direction.

I was having a good chat with a mate who is a game developer over the weekend and he was saying that the biggest issue they are facing is not really GPU grunt it's actually the weak CPU's holding them back more and causing more development issues.

I have both and regularly play on them both and tbh I see no great difference each has some great games.

Personally I would ignore any comments about power and go with whichever has the games you like and which most your friends have.

This thread is pointless
Gamers just play games

Do what whatever you want to do, instead of asking a load of fanboys that won't have anything said about their choice in console (not all posters)

Not sure about pointless, how else would Pioneer2000, Mr Men and that other one Cu3red or something get through the day? It doesn't bother me that the X1 is less powerful, the games still look nice and play well enough. Graphics are not everything, I've spent more time on MCC than any other game so far this year along with Titan fall which I read the sequel is confirmed for playstation . I would say that exclusive wise X1 maybe edges it due to Sony's not hitting the heights expected but in all honesty I found Killzone, infamous quite good. Nothing ground breaking but fun all the same. I expect The Order to be similar really. The PS4 is pretty much silent for me, I have it sitting in a wooden TV stand/cabinet along with the Virgin box and Xbox One. As I've said before the requirement for a power brick is annoying for my set up and the size of the console is a pain as well, it's fairly ugly sitting next to my PS4 with my beautiful Sony W8 above them. As soon as a X1 slim is available it's a day one purchase. PS4 does look to be the place to be in 2015

I have to say when I first got my ps4 it was really loud at times but after first few months the fans never seem to ramp up anymore.

PS4 exclusives: Uncharted, Deep Down, Blood Borne, Planetside 2, No man's sky, The Order, Rime, Hell Blade, Until Dawn, Ratchett and Clank, Shadow of the Beast, Street Fighter 5, Alienation, The Witness, Everybody's Gone To Rapture. Plus there will be quite a few indie titles and maybe some I've missed.
Now I'd like to see Pioneer2000 come up with a list of Xbone exclusives out this year.
*edit*
70 PS4 exclusives

Tomb Raider is suspected of being a timed exclusive simply because MS refused to answer if it was a timed exclusive or not.

+1 (though I've only just got my XB1)
