My new E46 M3

Looks really nice, the paint is like a mirror. How much did you pay? You told us the price for your 330Ci but not the M3 :)

The E46 is still a classy and modern looking shape. Stick a private plate on it and most non car people wouldn't be able to tell you how old it is.

If you have 10K to spend on an all round, good at most things car, I can not think of anything better on the planet. Loved my two, even if that was 10 years ago :(

I'll play the guessing game.

2004 facelift with 93k miles in good spec/condition - £9,500.

From my considerable time searching, a car of this spec/condition/age etc should have been between £9-10k. I got it for £8200. It was up for £8500 and I couldn't think of a reason to negotiate any money off for it, apart from brake discs, so managed to blag £300 for them. Really pleased with this price, and this combined with the excellent price i got for my 330ci meant the cost to change was just over £4k and it left me with a decent pot of money for improvements and failures.

First photo shows just how lovely these cars still are. I still wish BMW had sorted out the exhaust note though

I really like the noise the car makes. Don't get me wrong, below 3krpm the 330ci sounds better. The 330 burbles and just sounds beefy. However, above 3krpm the exhaust kicks in and it makes the car sound and feel like a bit of racey engine rather than a cruiser. Ideally, in the future I want to do something about the lack of induction noise. I'd give my right arm for a carbon airbox, but the truth is, £1800 all in is just too much. I could stomach the GSR airbox at £1000, but it's the remap, the relocation of sensors and the fitting of the box which puts on another £800 to this mod, which at nearly £2000 all in, just means it's a bit of a no no.

I'm hoping to get it to a place where the car is in near perfect condition and the suspension is sorted, then save up hard and possibly go down the route of BMW Performance front BBK and maybe a carbon airbox if the lottery Gods are smiling down on me.

Lovely purchase Gaygle

What is the performance like in comparison to your 335i?

335 has less torque but is available earlier (low down the Rev range). It also has less power but max power is available earlier.

M3 has more torque and power but higher up the Rev range so have to rev it more.

They both do 60 in about the same time.

The advantage of M3 is that it has an LSD.
