Corruption at its lowest.

The problem is that what is illegal isn't necessarily that black and white.

Yes, but in this case it seems to have been waved as a threat, as in shut up, stop investigating this, or else.
Clearly stuff like this happened at various levels for long periods of time, things were dealt with 'in house', or completely covered up.
I doubt we will ever know the actual truth in this case, or just how many 'high ups' were involved, and who they were. I wonder if the governments of the time knew of such things, and decided it was in the public interest to not divulge or investigate such matters.
Even if they were rival parties, or police seniors, or military men, the establishment would have taken a hit.
Similar to Church cover-ups and BBC cover-ups all around the same time.

It all seems sleazy and disgusting, and it appears similar things happen all the time, just different sections of the community commit the offence.

Perhaps you solve this particular situation, but then you may end up getting some unintended consequences.

I also think that current officers, many who weren't even alive when many of these incidents occurred are having their collective reputation dragged through the gutters by the mistakes of our predecessors. That can be really frustrating. I'm not saying that corruption doesn't happen, but the culture is certainly different now.

Rotherham? I realise that was collective failing by multiple agencies.

All this is really sad, sexual abuse destroys children's lives, there's no excuse.
I hope those who are still alive will be prosecuted.

Rotheram was SY Police trying desperately to avoid being labelled as racist and consequently losing the plot. There were substantial failings, but I don't think that was malicious corruption.

They really went the wrong way about it though and basically gave impunity to minorities to rape kids. Well played South Yorkshire Police. Well played.
There also seems to be a distinct lack of heads rolling over the incidents too...

I hope all this stems from a different time and it doesn't go on, to the same extent that all this seems to have been, now. I'm not sure we'll ever know what exactly went on as its establishment investigating establishment and as people will still be alive, police, MPs, ministers, civil servants and clergy I really don't think any of the modern institutions want it all coming out. Still too recent. Once everyone is long gone then maybe. It will probably cover all political parties and they will be far too worried about the hit they could potentially take. Thatcher probably knew about Peter Hayman And the last thing the Tories would want is her name sullied too much.

I hope I'm wrong and it all comes out sooner so people can get what they deserve. Unfortunately I don't believe in an afterlife so in my view death would be escape.

pretty shocking revelations - i would like to say i'm surprised but unfortunately i'm not.

i hope ex police come out the woodwork and stitch the scumbags up.

Wait till after the election.

What about the Hillsborough inquests ? One of the witnesses, a policeman, says he went to a meeting with high-level officers in the days after and they were told that they would blame the drunken, ticketless Liverpool fans. These senior officers even now deny this meeting took place. Now that someone has stood up to take the rap everything else will be left under the carpet.

Neither of the 3 established parties are going to upset the status quo, so don't hold your breath.

What I meant was that answers will be given/found, but not before the election, as such answers are likely to favour the UKIP vote, which is not to the advantage of any major party.

Tbh I wouldn't want the IPCC to run it.

Nothing less than a full public enquiry is required.

The trouble is who runs that enquiry? It's normally run by a member of the very establishment that it is to be investigating or at least someone with very close ties to it.

Absolutely, and with full immunity from prosecution under the OSA.

This is something I don't quite understand, for it to be an 'official secret' one would expect it to be written in the file of an MI5 officer somewhere, and if so, it isn't unlikely to warrant prosecution if the person is standing giving evidence in a court of law.
I can't think of an example on what someone could be prosecuted for evidence in a child abuse enquiry.
Give me an example?

Exactly.

The Establishment cannot be trusted to investigate itself.

See the Chilcot Enquiry for details.

How is the culture different when there has been several recent cover ups. Sheffield, Rotherham and so on. Are you referring to politicians specifically?

I wonder if a panel of journalists from the various print and TV media would be acceptable running an enquiry?

I think we can all make the leap to understand that when a poster says 'the police' they are referring to the police as an organisation and not targeting specific individuals for 'bashing'. If you choose to see it otherwise, then you are regarding it from an individual perspective.

I'm not at all surprised by this news of corruption. We might not have the levels of everyday corruption that plague some countries, but in some ways, institutional corruption is worse.
