nVidia announce the Titan X at GDC 2015

Having perused a few reviews, stock for stock looks to be roughly between ~25-35% faster then the GTX 980. Notably increasing performance relative to the 980 as you go up in resolution. The lower bound generally representing performance at 1080p and ~35% at 2160p/4k resolution. The odd outlier game in either direction of course.

Just seen the reviews...man the performance is great, the cooling is crap.
Throttling at 84C...have to run abot 90..and its noisy. Thats a tough one to explain after all the 290ref bashing.

Less of a tough one to explain given the performance difference on what is basically the same generation of technology - a bit more questionable if it was on sub 20nm planar.

No custom coolers this time around?

Visualises the growing need for stacking memory technology on GPUs perfectly.

Does it not seem a little OTT though?

It was at least a little understandable as a budget compute card with the original Titan (regardless if that was your use or not the functionality was still there).

aye - none of the dual use semi pro as even the quadro m6000 for DP is poor.

me thinks they actually ran out of room to build it in

Yer, you look at the die size and clocks, it is obvious something had to give. I don't care much for DP either so not fussed on that. A shame for work station users still.
