New headphones for music and casual gaming

k612 for £100 k702 or hd598 for £150

They are all open headphones which would suck when I'm on the go as everyone will hear it and I spend quiet some time out. Also What is this ohm about 32vs 80 vs 250 for DT770 pro? (Does 250 sound better or something?)

We were answering PapaLazaru.

Impedance and sensitivity are the two main factors in how easy or difficult the headphones are to drive. A 32 ohm set will be easy to drive straight from a phone or other low power device. A 250 ohm set will require an amp of some kind. Its not that simple though because if you use the 32 ohm version with something like a Sound Blaster Z, the bass will sound loose and badly controlled due to the low damping factor.

32 ohm DT770 good for phones or amps with an output impedance of less than 4 ohms
80 ohm DT770 good for devices or amps with an output impedance of 10 ohms or less (includes Xonar sound cards)
250 ohm DT770 requires a more powerful amp but the output impedance can be up to 30 ohms.

I just have this urge to try out some new headphones, without breaking the bank. I've got an Arcam rPAC and some Creative Aurvana Live 2 headphones at the moment but am really wondering if the K612 will be much of an improvement.

I just have been in richer sound and I guess I have no luck as they only have few in range from 100 to 190 pounds. I only got chance to listen to beyerdynamic t51i and sennheiser urbanite. I still have no ide hot DT770 pro 80hms sound :/

So maybe someone knows how beyerdynamic t51i compares to beyerdynamic DT770 pro 80ohm as they didnt have any mentioned in this thread.

About all they have in common is that they are both built by Beyerdynamic. One is over ear, the other is on ear, one uses Tesla drivers the other doesn't, one is aimed at the studio while the other is aimed at home/street use and one costs almost twice as much as the other.

I haven't tried them but they are unlikely to sound anything like the DT770 as they have totally different housings and drivers.

Okay Im out of ideas but I just got 15% off on rain forest and I may get Beyerdynamics DT770 pro 80ohm for around £90. Just last question how do they compare to beats pro in terms of sound quality? I listen to beats and they sounded quiet good to me but the price is a killer.

Substantially better. No real comparison. The newer beats are a vast improvement on what they were but they are still sub-par, even more so considering their price.

Just last question if you were to buy new headphones for listening to music for about 130 pounds which one would you buy And why?

Personally the K612, I enjoy wider soundstage and their sound signature best aligns with what I personally like best at that budget.

Yes but you also need to factor in an amp for the K612, which would bump the total to more like £200 (£150 + £50) anyway, whereas the 80 ohm DT770 will be fine without one.

Yep, very open so not suitable for outside

Ehhh, not so sure I agree. Used PortaPros on a flight before, and they have worse isoltion than the K612s ever will and that wasn't much issue.

K612 for £110 and then a second hand FiiO E7 or equivalent amp (about £20-30) is pretty close budget wise. DT770 may be able to be powered out and about but will also require an amp if you want the 'best' from it - plus imo the K612 is a better 'phone.

It's all subjective at the end of the day and SamyBoy, the only way to decide is to listen to them yourself - which unfortunately may require a few purchases and returns under DSR, but its the safest bet.

where can you get the K612 for £110? Its £150+ on the rain forest and £120 from Thomann, so I'm obviously missing a retailer and I like cheap :D

Thank you a lot for this email and I think you right I do have to hear headphones before I decide which one I want. Although I dont really understand DSR as I always though it was return policy for unopened item ?
