I have 2 270x 4gb cards in xfire gaming at 1080p ... should I sell up and get one of the 780ti's ? Or would that just be a side grade ??
Side grade IMO...

I think the 780ti would be worth it instead of CF 270x just so you don't deal with general multi-gpu suckiness. But then again, if that's what you wanted then the 290x is already available at a good price so it still doesn't make a lot of sense. Right now the only reason I'd eye the 780ti is if you're after the 4K Gsync monitor and don't want to wait for the Freesync ones.
Not really both a 970 and 780ti will out perform a 960ti.
The 780Ti at £250 is great value indeed and a 770 at £170 is superb and a step up from a 960 and priced far enough below a 290 to be worthy.

If only I had 250 for the 780ti. Not like I need a new GPU the 670 plays all my games smoothly at high or Max settings but still. It would have allowed me to use DSR more and at higher res than what I do ATM.
Tho I do wonder tho. Is a better gpu really needed these days as supposably gsync would make for nicer gaming even at low fps doesn't it and with dx12 coming future games will have much better fps than before due to the api efficiency so raw horsepower from a GPU isn't needed in the future compared to current APIs etc. Only exception is 4k or eyefinity type stuff.
I've just got a 4K screen, and I'm wondering about upgrading my GTX660 to the 780Ti. What sort of increase am I looking at here?
Paltry 3GB ram is going to hold it back with more demanding games.
