BMW 535d sport m

You don't need to update the maps every year, but it's nice to be able to have them up to date, especially if you're travelling to areas you're unfamiliar with often. Even at £70, it's still expensive compared to a one off payment around that with updates for life that you can move between cars. I can't get maps for that car from BMW either, so I'd be stuck paying £171.

What car do you have then? Granted, I haven't asked about maps for my NBT 530d yet, but my CIC 335d the maps were only £25 or something. You can buy the DVD's and upload them to the cars HDD, then you just need the FSC code to activate them.

Alternatively you can just download the maps yourself and buy the FSC code. But they are over 30 GB IIRC.

But I get your point, not as cheap as free lifetime updates with a TomTom or similar. But you only really need to update once in an ownership life-cycle really. If at all. Most roads don't change. Although if I were planning a big road trip across Europe I'd probably consider an update first.

That car is a facelift Jag XFR with the HDD based nav, the only choice seems to be the official update site at £171, on my old XF there were other options... It was more a general point about factory fit nav prices.

For my Z4M I use modified discs which give extra functionality over the standard, but the DVDs from BMW are £85 from BMW direct on ebay, or more if you go to a dealer.

As much as that? The last set of DVD's I got were only £21 + VAT or something from my local dealer. Granted that was the 2013 discs. Seems like that would be a big jump in price. But then again, you're probably talking DVD based nav option then?

Sore one with the Jag though. Wouldn't want to pay that.

Maybe BMW dealers have come down. I asked in my local BMW dealer a couple of years ago and was given a price around £180 IIRC, it was around the same price AUDI wanted for a DVD for my A6, and a bit cheaper than Jaguar wanted for update DVDs for the older system.

There are various sources for purchasing for navigation updates, which range greatly in price, in much the same way that there are various sources for brake pads etc. You don't need to purchase everything from a dealer.

It depends on the car, I've not found anywhere else doing the HDD map updates for my car other than the 'Here' website which is navteq rebranded, or from a dealer who will give you the same thing. The activation code for your specific car is obviously the important part, otherwise getting hold of the maps would be easy.

Local car audio place recommends a dension for 429 fitted that will do usb, Bluetooth music and phone all through the idrive. Probably have to wait till next month but that sounds like an option.
