Has anyone here ever suffered from a shoulder dislocation? I dislocated my left shoulder 26 days ago and am still really struggling to get my deltoids to activate - how long did it take for feeling and senation to return and how long before nerves to start firing the muscles again?

Struggling to front and laterally raise much more than 3kg at the moment!

Yes - and this was 6+ years ago, and it's still giving me jip now, but that's because I ignored the rehab and continued to abuse it.

There is a lot you can do for it, but without knowing where your impingements are it's hard to offer advice - going to a good physio that embraces exercise will be the best bet as they will offer good exercises you can do - mobility is key, and slowly slowly catchy monkey. I'm now able to shoulder press over 80kg and bench over 130kg with no pain - compared to the 100/160kg I used to be able to do previously I've got a long way to go, but it's getting there.

Ah, dat feel when you figure out 2 different ways of setting up for seal rows in a new gym. Initially I thought I could just use their chest-supported rowing machine but one go on that and it felt like it would break my sternum as soon as the weight got heavy - not a good design. Pendlay style rows are okay, but my spinal erectors already feel plenty worked from pulls etc and BORs tend to get sloppy for me when I want to be concentrating on my back.

1) hang back end DB flat bench off the side of rack/cage and elevate the front end with one of the the small metal step things they have for box jumps.
2) put one end of the flat DB bench on the deficit rack platform, use metal step thing to prop front up
3) get weird looks from everyone but IDC

Also benched in the rack for the first time since their crappy BB benches have deep J-hooks and my T-Rex arms literally can't get the weight out if my scapular are retracted (even letting them come forward I can still barely get it out) - also a terrible design.

Still, 3rd workout post-surgery and so far so good, although squatting still doesn't feel 'right' - probably need to get some mobility back plus I'm not used to seeing myself in a full length mirror... might just turn the other way round actually.

It just hit me in the head that I have been doing iifym with a -500 calorie deficit for 3 months or so... Could this be the reason why I feel like crap and stalled on my lifts? I'm currently eating 1920 calories a day at 76kg b/w.

IIFYM isn't a diet.

Post noob gains and if you're not that fat, a moderate to large deficit will mean your unlikely to make much in the way of strength gains; most people just aim to keep what they have and don't try and up all their lifts unless they're feeling amazing on a particular day. A couple of months dieting and preserving lifts (the amount of work needed to maintain an adaptation is a lot less than the amount of work needed to get it in the first place) isn't much in the grand scheme of things, especially when gaining cycles last several times as long.

Not being a bucs sport doesn't help

Weightlifting is a BUCS sport but I'm getting jip atm because I want to start a powerlifting club and I'm getting the argument that there isn't enough interest. I queried about if the club could be both weightlifting and powerlifting but the person I initially spoke to insisted that they had to be separate. Which seemed silly to me as there are facilities for the powerlifters and weightlifters yet we can't access them because no club exists...

My bad, there was definitely some kind of exasperating moment though I seem to forget what now... The guys at my uni were in a similar position, best of luck :). It's annoying though because I don't know if the people we were talking to would even know the difference

I'm not exactly gaining much either but I am in a deficit trying to get rid of the last bit of belly fat that I have got. Not going to well to be honest, I have only been lifting seriously for a few months and my gains are starting to slow (have had a 140kg deadlift for a few weeks now). Shall I stick at it and get rid of it first or up my calories and try again in a few months?

When you say "last bit of belly fat" what do you mean? Can you see abz yet? Because the chances are your body is shedding fat from all over, so you could just be waiting/dieting for another few weeks to now noticeable effect in your stomach podge.

Cutting is a difficult process to get right because gainz grind to a halt and can reverse whilst not actually getting to the peeled/leaf-like vasc to which some aspire.

Depending on how you think you look, carry on for a couple more weeks and keep your lifting up... but then start re-introducing calories back into the equation.

No abs yet, I do know that you can't target fat loss, I was just asking if you guys think it would be easier to lose the excess fat now or in a few months with a bit more muscle mass?

Cheers Freefaller - out of interest how long did it take for the shoulder muscles to almost feel normal? I don't mind them being weak, as long as it feels like they're working, but at present it just feels like the muscles are non existent to train. My shoulder muscles feel soft under the skin, like the muscles aren't engaging, it just feels weak and unstable.

Doing 531 and it feels to me like starting from 90% 1RM figures is too low - for example I managed 9, 10 and 6 reps (aiming for 5+, 3+ and 1+) for the last round of deads. I believe 90% is suggested as most people add a few ego kgs to their 1RMs?

Yup. There is no interest for it at my Uni - I'm one of four powerlifters (and I can hardly call myself that!) I've seen and there are no facilities or platforms for any oly lifts. Heck, we only have one rack which doesn't help. We need at least ten members to even take it to the SU for it to go through a vote as to whether or not it should become an 'official' SU soc.

Are you sure your 1RMs are accurate? :p

Because I am an idiot and didn't pay much attention to rehab well over a year. However they are still not normal. They will never be normal until I have an operation, and at the moment I'm not bothered about it enough.

Cookeh if you have a couple of years left and want to make it happen, start a fb group, get chatting to folk at the gym and outside, we were *exactly* the same, with a minimum of 10 too. Our facilities were pretty good though because our uni shared them with the Hearts football team, looks like you might have some more challenge there...
