Being born in nottingham , spending 18-19 years their and then spending from 19-34 in Newcastle I can only conclude people from the midlands are born with a higher natural IQ.

northern lasses don't even have the sense to wear a coat in the winter and they think short dresses are all weather gear

As for an on-topic response.. I guess I would say the Space race was very important!
Loads of tech we use today can trace its origins back to the space race. It hugely accelerated the development of many fields vital to the future of mankind
