*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S6/Edge Thread ***

i do really like the screen and touchwiz and the 64bit processor on the s6..

do u think Samsung will do a active version??

They've already announced an S6 Active which I believe will have a microSD slot and has, if I recall correctly, slightly different technical specs (no heart rate monitor or fingerprint scanner, lower resolution camera).

Spoke to Vodafone earlier about delivery dates...

Voda: We are starting the delivery from 10th onwards.
Voda: Customers will start receiving text about the delivery details from the 10th onwards.
Me: So is there any chance of a delivery ON the 10th or not realistically?
Voda: Some of them will be delivered on 10th as well. However, I won't be able to comment on who the customers will be.

Having dealt with Vodafone in the last few week: ask the same question to 2 different people working for them - you will get 2 different answers.....

Haha, I have been in that situation already when asking them about the wireless charger and case that are supposed to be included.

Todays representative seemed more helpful than those I've had in the past. Hopefully I won't have to deal with customer service too often once I've got the phone, I will probably go in store instead.

Have you ordered from vodafone also?

Yeap! Got fed up of CPW playing games.

Preordered the 32gb standard S6 with accessory pack and 24 months spotify. Nhs discount brings it to £38/m which isn't bad at all!

I don't and wouldn't use a screen protector but I do use a flip case no micro scratches here on my 2 year old s4.

Not bad at all!

I'm moving from O2... I went for 64GB Edge, student discount and quidco gives an effective monthly of £39.07 :)

Free wireless charger, case and 6 months of spotify :)

The problem is when you have been hating on phones that bend, have glass backs, no removable storage, no removable battery, finger print sensors, sticky out cameras, antenna lines etc the latest Galaxy must be very conflicting for the average Samsung fanboy hence the over reaction. :D

Not sure if anyone ever hated the finger print scanner, I know a lot of people that wanted on for a long time. But logic and facts don't really matter too you know do they

Just like with the iPhone, it's no big deal.

I would have been interested in the S6 results, the S6 edge has a lot of glass, it doesn't seem like it would be better then the 6+. I wonder how will the S6 handles these tests.

Ahhhh, that feeling when you realise that Apple played you with overpriced and inferior technology, again. Cheer up son, get an S6, you'll feel better....maybe...

Well I would but no one seems to know when they are coming out... :D

Hope nobody severs an artery with their exploding glass s-bendy. ;)

Nice.

Probably the most interesting aspect of the teardown thus far is that the die size of the 14nm FinFET Exynos 7420 is about 78 mm^2, which is incredibly small compared to the 113 mm^2 size of the 20nm Exynos 5433 (in the Note 4)

It’s unlikely that this is purely due to process as the metal interconnect pitch improvements are relatively minimal when compared to 20nm HKMG, so it’s likely that we’re looking at a great deal of optimization in layout and possibly some IP blocks removed in order to reduce die size. With a die shot floorplan we should be able to figure out exactly what Samsung did to achieve this, and get a good idea of what Samsung has done for the Exynos 7420 which should help with our full review of the Galaxy S6.

Has anyone else noticed the Vodafone prices have gone up by over £5 a month?

Just checked that now you mentioned it, and yes it seems the contract I ordered is now £5.50 a month extra if you want to order it now. Odd.

There is now some variation in edge vs non-edge pricing now which they didn't have before. For example on one contract before they had identical prices, but now the edge has an upfront of £49 and non edge is only an upfront of £9 (monthly has gone up to £54 on both of them though, from £48.50)

I think from what I've read that both Android Central and Engadget had concerns over the battery life in their reviews so far of both the S6 and Edge.

Indeed and I'm sure both said it is inferior to the S5 but GSMArena are saying it is better than the S5 (for web browsing) with the Edge features turned off which I'm pretty sure the others didn't.

Basically AnandTech need to hurry up!

There's no reason the edge should have significantly better battery life than the reg S6. Makes me wonder how accurate their tests are.

EDIT - They have updated their battery test on the S6 with retail FW

Better than the S5 except for talk time - I can dig that.
