Looking at changing Car - Help please?

It looks like you do have your heart set on the Meriva. But surely, surely there must be a better option, the meriva really is a terrible car.

Have a look at the B class merc, corolla verso or something from the peugeot stable, their MPV's arent terrible!

Update from last nights dealership trips

Yeti - Wow, just Wow. Didn't think I could get so much for money.

Roomster - Felt abit utilitarian, more van like

C-Max - It was a 2.0TDCI Zetec that I found, seemed ok untill they went to start it up. dash light up like a christmas tree and it coughed more crap out the back then mine currently does

B200 cdi - Very Classy car, I'm just concerned about parts cost etc?

Current on my short listed

Yeti - Its a massive push on my budget but it's a lot of car/off roader/mpv for the money and it hits all the box's

Newer Meriva - Its there cause its what I currently have

Gold Plus - Felt more car like to sit in and just felt solid

Saw a B class last night and had to try it as it was in budget and was right size wise - see above :)

Strikes me your not sure what you want op, I can't help thinking you should at least price up what your existing car will cost to fix up (it hardly sounds like a large bill to me on the face of it) you then don't have the constraint of time forcing your decision and choices not to mention you'll get more for the Vauxhall if it's not sold with faults.

I'd get a quote from a reputable garage at least.

tried a zafira ? Had one as a company car and it got ragged day in/out for 3 years and only needed tyres/service .

Was quick enough.. comfortable compared to the astra and plenty of room . They should be cheap enough to get an elite or similar in yer price range

Its going in to my normal garage next week for them to look it over and tell me what it needs

I'm almost 100% certain that its the EGR system and associated piping thats clogged up and has caused the ecu light to stick on. But its the fact its really down on power, struggles to start and has a water leak as well.

I'm not sure what I want to swap my car to - but I would like to swap it at some point as it was a stop gap car that I've become attached to - the whole plan was to have the car till my brothers wedding (which is september this year) and change it prior to the wedding.

I think the water leak is from the raditor area - top right of the engine bay.

I have thought about cleaning the engine out myself - but I'm not 100% confident that it will resolve the issue and I would prefer a proffessional do that.

Intresting weekend

Drove a Yeti 1.2 tsi, was actually quite good - amde me think do I want another diesel really as I'll be getting the tram to work now and as such won't be drivign that often.

Deal was a little on the high side for it though I felt

Drove a newer meriva cdti - same as mine but better looking inside and a few more toys

Drove the Golf - felt well, boring :( functional but boring.

Drove the B class - felt like my grandma's A class, but hey ut was well equipped

Also drove a few others, So i'm more confused now

I've had 2 prior to this and I like them. I did plan to do a few trips around the uk but as I'm moving to a place near a tram stop so I'm going to use the tram for getting to work.

My point is if you're not doing the warranted mileage there's no reason to pick one over at least a half-decent petrol engine. I'd much rather have a 1.2 TSI than a 1.6 TDI.

Yeah - thats what I'm looking at.

The fact I won't be doing daily commute all the time - there could be the odd drive in but its very very rare.

Hence I now need to really think what I should do.

Thought about just running the vauxhall till it literally dies on you? Depends how much you'll really rely on having the car those times when you would use it and how close mot is i guess.

I'm not a fan of the yeti's looks, but it will offer a lot of space and versatility for the money. If it's a stretch though I'd find it hard to see past the jacked up golf. I know you said it's boring but let's be realistic about what else you're looking at here - they're all pretty bland

Yeah - Its what I'm basically doing now, but I want to be ready for any outcomes.

I don't mind a blan out side looking car, I'm after something thats reliable, sturdy, and has a quirk about it

Focusing on the big lad aspect, how about an older Skoda Yeti or Octavia?

Octavia will be 'low' like the Mondeo though.

Skoda are pretty good. VAG quality but cheaper and with more kit than most other members of the group.

Was about to come in and suggest a Yeti, good cars despite marmite looks.

I'm in the process of replacing my car and I quite like the Yeti but my son said it looks like a car that 'special needs' people drive. I'm guessing he isn't a fan of the looks! :D
