The WD Black is the better drive, Barracudas are acceptable but not much else, they have a worryingly high failure rate in comparison to the other major players.
The latest version of the WD Black is likely to be the best version yes.
Just had a 500gb Barracuda fail few weeks ago only lightly used over 2 years. Would prefer to buy Samsung drives if they were being developed instead will be Western Digital for my next purchase.
Another vote for the WD Black. As a long time Seagate user, the Barracudas are fast and cheap, but they fail lots and Seagate's customer service is poor. It's not worth the hassle compared to spending a bit more for a WD.
After some research I've found that the WD Blue also is 7200RPM. Some sites have even said the blue might even be better for gaming than the black.
Is there anything significantly different between the two, apart from the warranty? I've heard the black has technology to help it work better at different angles. My case does require mounting the hdd on its side.
