So, even after the supposed performance fix my drive is grinding to a halt again.

It's about time Samsung gave everyone their money back, I've had to pull the drive and stick it in a drawer as I can't trust it.

they are currently working on another fix with magician software and a new firmware to go with it which from what I have heard is due out on the 14th of April but this may change.

where did you get your 840 evo from? I returned one of my 840 evos to my local store because of this and they changed it for a 850 with no issues

Bit OTT really do you not think? The slowness bug only hits after a while and a quick run of DiskFresh puts it back - a simple fix until their so called permanent fix is out.

If you dont want to use DiskFresh, acronis your OS, secure-erase the SSD, and restore image - takes about 20 mins.

You might want to keep an eye on this thread by the way

up to you what you do, i took one of mine back and changed it for a 850, the other got a RMA as was faulty due to is keep disconnecting and as these are now end of life i got a 850 back instead.

how long have you had the SSD for? as terrier said there is a quick fix to restore speed if that is the issue for removing it but there is another fix due, did you run the performance tool and secure erase on their first fix of this issue as it did fix some of the drives but not all

it wont fail it will just slow down,i hardly notice the slowdown on mine tbh

I cant see why Samsung cant just recall all the older 840 evos and replace them with either 840 pro or 850 evo drives? and call it a day

this next fix from what ive read is still only a temporary fix and not a full on cure

it would be easier to sell it on as second hand and buy another ssd?

i thought first they originally was going to do a updated magician software but then changed it to updated firmware as well to address the issue?

i maybe wrong though as i haven't been following it much

Mine was getting pretty bad before I sorted it via a mixture of the firmware update and cloning the driver and rewriting it - before that it had got to the point that some of the oldest data was getting intermittent read errors and ecc counts were going through the roof trying to deal with certain cells mixed with pre-mature block failure (that weren't actually failed but retired due to errors) and/or actual erroring blocks that weren't being retired. If I'd left it much longer it would have lead to data loss.

Its slowly starting to drop off again now so I don't really think its that over the top - its going to get binned sooner or later.

2 benchmarks on the drive a couple of months apart - between times I'd hardly used the system at all so that is all just performance degradation due to the issue as some of the older data becomes harder to read. (The difference near the start is due to having run windows update between times I believe).

if anything is to go by the new fix is meant to be out in 2 days time (the 14th)

if I was you wait till the next fix comes out and see if it sorts the issues out, did you run the first fix they released last year on the SSD?

Where did you get that date from?

in the other post about the issues of these drives people have said the 14th in there
Gotcha. Saw those, but also didn't see any links with a hard source. Just wondering... we've certainly been waiting a very long time for this!!
