Had a fantastic ride out today on the MTB for the first time in a while, had a lot of fun! Smashing through puddles, balancing on the edge of tow paths through bridges haha.

It didn't start too well, had a bus driver on three separate occasions nearly wipe me out, and one of those times were whisker close. So I caught him up and pulled along side him, I think I said "are you effin kidding me" to which he replied "I earn £4.50 per hour, you don't know what it's eeffin like".. My reply was simply "so that's worth killing someone, is that what you're trying to accomplish today? You've nearly crushed me a number of times whilst speeding through town, is it worth it, do you wana kill me or something?" He was completely blank and turned away at this point and kept ignoring me. Genuinely scared me twice and there were no need, I wernt exactly going slow and I was hugging the kerb.

Anyways, a few mins later I were on the canal and I had a beautifully nice morning! I don't often ride the MTB at all so it was nice to give it a good blast across a genuinely beautiful part of West Yorkshire.

I had intentions of getting to Rochdale but my knee was hurting, I were running low on water and my thighs didn't feel reet good either so I decided decided to turn back and bag myself a good 40 miles.

Got a 2015 4th overall on a section I didn't know was there and 15th overall so that made me feel quite good as I wernt expecting anything along the route.

It was so much fun coming the other way as I were going down all the locks! Need to do it again but go a further next time!

Anyway here's the ride! I have pictures!

Commute is a warm up
Noodle legs

Anyone else for any insults before I go? :p

You should've done a 'James Bond' style slide under the lorry! ;):D

not an insult ;) just a recommendation/fact/grudasising

I didn't know what happened until I got close to it, the driver was getting out ha.. wonder what went though his head when he turned into that road!

Cheers for the input.

I'm looking for new chainrings primarily. My current ones are on the way out. They look worse than the ones in that eBay listing.

I just thought that if I can upgrade the cranks at the same time (non carbon chorus to carbon chorus) then I may as well.

But if the chainrings are duff I'll keep looking.

Brand new TA chainrings are coming out at £60 ish.

Looks ugly. Does that mean they're not double sided any more?

I got some LifeLine SPD compatible pedals the other day, i don't have much to compare them to but they seem perfectly fine.

yeah, but you can "unclip" the plastic bits out and they become double sided, I assume this is due to uk law? - all pedals need to have amber reflector?

Damn, so I reviewed this morning's Virb footage, of the abuse I received. Unfortunately, all you can hear is me shouting back, **** off :/

I suspected this might be a problem.

Does anyone know of a way to boost the Virb's mic, or can I use an external mic with it, does anyone know?

There's an external mic you can plug in, but in doing so the unit isn't waterproof... I removed the rubber gromit from the mount on mine and although you can hear more, it's all wind noise - you wouldn't make out voices when moving at any speed.

Sounds like you had a blast even with the idiot bus driver. You should've told him "if you kill me you won't even have your £4.50 p/hour job!".

I didn't take it as an insult mate don't worry, I don't have guns like you so have to do a short commute! ;)

Although one worrying thing... I'm still losing weight and size from my waist/chest. But my thighs are now getting bigger... I already struggle with sizing them!? Currently 66cm circumference

Would I expect them to continue to grow rather than shrink? To be honest I've always carried more weight there than my waist, used to be my butt too but that's still shrinking (according to the mrs)... None of my trousers fit any longer!

I could actually fit back into some old jeans I haven't worn since 2003-4 (had a clear out on the weekend)! Came across a few pairs of great board shorts I've not worn for 8 years+ which now fit me again! Looking forward to the summer now I'm not as 'fat'! :D

Preparing for my first 'after work ride' of any distance, should be around 25-30 miles and meeting the guys at 5:30. Aiming to leave work around 5 so I'm not late/rushed and out of breath before I start! There's 2 (guys from my mrs' work) and kinda know them, but never ridden with them before! One guy will be fitter/faster than me, the other won't be. Either way it'll be an easier 2 hours ride than the other group ones I've done (all shop rides so 16-18mph!) and with a smaller 'group'! :)

Edit: Sun just came out here, glorious! Much warmer than earlier too! :D

I think that's why they do it, yeah, but not all sets come with those. I bought some M520s last year and they didn't include those.

I bought 2 sets of M530's last year (middle and end) and they didn't come with anything like that, no reflectors either...?

I saw some SPD 'pedal inserts' mentioned somewhere, road.cc or such? They gave you a plastic 'platform' on standard SPD's so you wouldn't need 2 sided pedals. Maybe it's those?

They're literally inserts to make it one sided :) other side has the proper spd clip in as you'd expect and this side reflectors and its flat :) easy to remove tho, good thing to have I guess!

aw ;) I know, must suck eh! no but, seriously, I dare you tomorrow to go balls out until your chest, quads and body hurts! :) I'm tired of seeing people in small ring front/mid rear potting along at 9mph!!! GO ON WORK IT TRAIN IT!! AGRGR>..

I wanted to pull him through his stupid yellow bus window! Irresponsible moron should have more about him seeing as though he transports kids around!

It genuinely angered me haha, 5 mins later i had calmed down and had a blast on the canal peacefully!

GO ON WORK IT TRAIN IT!! AGRGR>..

That's how I ride :D why ride if you're gonna take it easy! Push!!!!!!!!

No pain no gain :) I'm not happy if I'm not falling off my bike at the end of the ride haha.

In all seriousness I do work hard when I'm out riding.

Looks amazing, nice open looking road too! Jealous of the road surface as it looks perfect too!

I went down this lane a couple of weekends ago and it was all under shade... The first 10/20m were nice tarmac (so built up some speed) and then there were a series of horrific pot holes and lumps in the tarmac (like mini sleeping policemen) nearly throwing me off! Totally hidden by the shade from the trees! :o

I was pleasantly surprised by the surface, it was really good. Despite the occasional farming traffic, visitors etc to the area the road is well maintained. Think i had to avoid one pothole on the journey up. Stark contrast to the manky country roads with potholes, loose stones, field mud etc on the run between Brechin and Edzell! Hoping to do that route again this weekend either before the football on Saturday or save it till Sunday.

EDIT

The link to that lane is the first part of my journey :p

Need to get a video of my commute, complete opposite to Grudas.

I have to ride down here - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.8...ata=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sEl6QHtlS0LZAVIRumkrKCw!2e0

Went to see Paris - Roubaix. Managed to see the race at 5 different points, including some cobbled sections.

The cobbles were crazy, the team cars were hitting their bumpers as they drove over them and still looked like the riders were doing 30mph.

Yes I know it's Instagram but I posted some photos here - https://instagram.com/daveski12/ and my friend who went posted some here - https://instagram.com/lynus2004/

Very jealous, what did you do getting over there and for accomodation? End up being expensive?

Your friend's pic of Wiggins is pretty great too.

Drove over and back same day and took food so not too bad. Ferry crossing was £55, two tanks of fuel roughly £120.

Obviously still an expensive day out but not too bad, especially if you can share the costs with friends.

Just had a go at making some rice cakes to use as energy instead of energy bars on long rides. The mix tasted pretty great, interested to see how they are once chilled.

Good stuff, I was thinking about making some, but got put off when the sky guy explained how they made theres with the industrial fridges and explained the potential problems if any of the ingredients are dodgy. I'll just go with oat bars :D

What a load of tosh. "Buy our products or you'll be poisoned and die."
