Would you want a forum littered with swear words, gruesome photos, and explicit pictures?
I certainly wouldn't - and I like the fact that people have to be moderate and sensitive in their behaviour towards others (most of the time) and think about the language they use.
Whether they deserve it or not you just have to bite your lip and respond in a cleverer way, or you know, just ignore them? You should be able to 'knock them down' using a clever argument not swear words, in my opinion going on a swearing tirade just undermines your own position.

Like most things, there is usually a happy medium. Swearing has a place in language and a purpose, to give strength to a particular point or phrase. Sometimes the only way to really show the strength of a feeling is with a word that is reserved for such a scenario.
The problem comes when that is directed at someone (but then we don't allow personal attacks regardless of the words used) or the words are used in contexts for which the aren't suitable. Occasional swearing has a purpose, swearing as punctuation undermines the former and makes the words have less pungency.
Stephen Fry has a video on why he thinks swearing has a place in the English language which pretty much reflects my views.

I said nothing about wanting any of those things yes keep the insults, gruesome & explicit Images banned or too a minimum however if a word is used in the correct context and not aimed as an insult it should be ok.
Some words have been banned as derogetory because people used them in an insultiung way and the populus ran with it gay for example the origin didn't even mean anything remotely homophobic when it was 1st thought up, Retardation being another is the act or result of delaying, not a label to a particular group of people with mental deficientcies, the fact is we ban these words and then the populous moves onto another a simple example poo is used instead of **** yet poo isn't a swear word why is this they both have exactly the same meaning are used in the exact same scenarios both can be used as an insult yet one is banned and the other not I find it quite bizzarre that we feel the need to ban words rather than deal with what makes the damn words derogetory in the 1st place peoples misuse of them.
The amount of times I get temp banned for embedding a news source video (young turks etc) that happens to contain a single swear word is LOL
Mild swear words are allowed in PG rated films, post them here you get a ban, but it's okay at a family friendly cinema LOL OCUK

I am also of the opinion that swearing in life should be kept to an absolute minimum.
However, what are a couple of digital swearing words in relation to all the other over the top violance we see in games/movies.
Its always the responsibility of the parent what the child person watched on the screen.
So its a bit stupid to cencor swearing words on a GTA forum topic. Its like cencoring blood on a slasher movie forum.
And words are no way as harmful as actual physical violance. Its like law and order. You can call your neighbour a foul word but giving him a uppercut is against the law.

1 single swear word though and how many kids are going to be interested in politics or the news to click the embedded video?
easy to miss a single swear word in a video like that
anyway point still stands loads of family friendly films contain words I can't post here, if someone is going out of their way to swear then fine but when it's a single word in a video that most likely wasn't noticed at the time of watching it?

only one for swearing in my infractions? and look at the dates! I'm a good boy! use some common sense and issue a warning for people who aren't repeat offenders on a regular basis
Love to know what adverts I supposedly spammed, I'm fairly confident I never spammed anything

One single swear word that's not permitted, the rule is clear, no swearing.
As for easy to miss, that in some cases may be understandable but in others when the word is not only spoken but appears as text too, hmmm.
I've said before, in real life I swear a fair bit though I can quite easily manage not to do it on the forum. It's not that difficult.

You never mentioned infractions, you mentioned 'temp banning'.
I assumed you get an infarction at the same time as the ban.

I just noticed someone had posted WTF in another thread, I don't read it as individual letters and I doubt anyone else does so it's the same as just posting the 3 words? but seems to be acceptable
If people really want to post GTAV videos just bleep out the swearing.
As DJ can confirm I have been suspended a couple of time for using naughty words, now I just get a "bleep" sound clip and edit my videos. Granted some of them are you "bleep"ing "bleep" go "bleep" yourself you "bleep"
But it saves me a ban and only add 5/10min into the video edit.
Obv this doesn't work for the violence part, but I mainly race or troll.

Yeah for sure, I did a BF4 video, spent an hour making sure all the naughties were "bleeped" out, posted it then was pointed out to me that someone had typed a naughty worded tirade in the visible chat box.
Just have to be extra vigilant and get it proof watched before posting I suppose.
Really should be a distinction between obviously intended and accidental imo
someone posts a video containing multiple swear words = ban.
someone posts a video with a single swear word, just remove the video and issue a warning

I myself have banned you in the past and more recently for swearing, I have also issued you with an infraction in the form of a warning about swearing. I never have a problem replying to any communications about any decision made by myself or another mod. If you or anyone else ever feels wronged by a decision I've made, contact me, I do reply.
As for the other members of the mod team, they all are hard working people who freely give up their time, so no, none are lazy.

The issue isn't swearing, its how people weild it. If you allow swearing on the board, then at first you have a few well placed F's and S's, then you get some casual F's and S's, and then before you know it you've got angry angsty anonymous posters calling each other D'z, C's, F's and X's.
And then we become YouTube.
At least without swearing people are putting more effort into their insults.
