Ok the title gives the issue. I have played a few different games and run graphics benchmarks with the current set up and never gone over 75 C, now I started playing GTA V and after playing for an hour or so looked at the temps and could not believe what I was seeing. I think I got some throttling but can't be sure until I have a play about later today.
I'm on a stock cooler and have had no reason to believe it is not seated correctly, never had any issues before.
It's not overclocked, just has the boost to 4.5GHz
Motherboard is on bios revision 5 (there are 3 newer version) but I don't want to flash the bios unless I really have too.
So why is GTA V stressing the CPU like this?
It's maxing out all the cores and I'm hitting 100 C, which can't be good.
I'm getting this information from Riva Tuner.
Is it accurate enough to use as a measure?
Will 100 C kill my CPU? Will it protect itself and I need not worry?
Should I try an after market heat sink and Fan? If so what do you recommend for a non overclocked 4790K for a man who wants to be able to run GTA V but not have my machine explode, and does not want to spend a fortune (£40ish).
