Mount Snowdon

Whilst it isn't the most challenging of routes, it is fairly long for those not experienced and best never to see any route up a mountain as causal because is she turns on you a mountain is a dangerous place to be.

Very true, this was end of may 2013 and it was pretty warm that year.
See the difference between the start and summit.

Layers, waterproof and gloves.
I didn't have any gloves that day :(, I forgot them. Although I did climb in a tshirt as I get so hot walking up hill. Unfit fat ********* has it's good sides.

About 2.5 hours up and half of that down.

I'd recommend Pyg track up and Miners down.

I'd give yourselves about 5 hours for the round trip if in reasonable health and not having done it before. Quickest I've done is 2 hours up and 35 mins down which was fun but we were jogging on the way back.

Pyg path is my favourite going up and maybe an amble back down the 'Llanberis' if I left my car there and caught a bus to the Youth Hostel. Also in bad visibility, you can follow close to the railway track going back down.

I have been up seven times and got a decent view once :)

Yeah, I've been on going up the Glyderau and it was sunny at the bottom and -20 windchill with ice rain half way up.

People often give me odd looks when they see the kit I carry, and there are times when it remains an easy, sunny and 20 degrees plus climb that the amount of kit I carry can be...annoying. :D

I love the Pyg too. I've been up Tryfan countless times and been able to see anything about twice!

Snowdon is great, myself and friends have done a few other mountains now but have been back to snowdon 5 times now as the routes are brilliant and the scenery amazing, it can get busy at times but really only near the summit, its a great day out.

I would say though, make sure you get there early if you are driving there and intend to park in the car park. One car park is at Pen Y Fan (Miners Track / Pyg) but is usually filled around 7:30am when the weather is good and you can get a bus there.

As you have a dog my advice would be to stick to either the Pyg Track or Llanberris pass. The pass is just a long walk up whilst the Pyg takes in some great scenery but near the start theres quite a few steepish steps which may be a little tricky if your dog is getting on a bit.

The best route I found (if you are a bit more advenurous in the future without dog) is start on the Pyg Track, then up Cribb Goch onto the neighbouring mountain, over to snowdon, back down to the miners track, wash your feet in the lake and take the miners track back before the pub.

A few random pics from my visits

I ran up (yes you read that right) on the shortest day of the year last year in shorts and no gloves and had no problems. Not that far, not difficult and, other than a bit at the top, not too bad temperature wise.

Never any view from the top though ;-)

Rhyd Ddu is my favourite of the 3 routes I've done of Snowdon.

For me it's always the quietest route with the least people, which I like and has the best mix of the other routes and arguably the better views.

It's slightly steep in some places, has a little ridge walk, but it's not too OTT.

I'll go again this year and more than likley choose Rhyd Ddu to walk up.

As a nice finish to the weekend, and as you are in that neck of the woods, and depending on how much time you have/a car etc.... visiting one of the amazing esturies is also really nice... barmouth estury (although the main town is tacky) or Aberdovey even nicer.

I'd agree with this, did this on Good Friday and it's a steady walk (second time I'd done it). Terrible weather that day and still snow on the top but it was still comfortable. I'd recommend going early (aim to get there <8am) and park on the pen-y-pas carpark, its right at the start of both the miners and pyg so if you go the route quoted above your just about set. It does cost £10 parking though but imo its worth it as when your down you can just get on your way as opposed to waiting around for a bus.

Just remember that when you get near to the top and you come to a t-junction turn left and follow the railway line to the summit, if you go left you'll hit crib goch and you don't want to be going there :)

Never done the Goch. How easy is it?
Trouble is always hike on my own, so no one to show me it. Heights don't scare me.
Is it easy enough if its a calm day?

Well it's a good job heights don't scare you then. On a calm, clear day it's fairly straightforward just make sure you pick your routes. If it's wet it gets harder, windy even harder still. Wet and windy? Be somewhere else.

Have you even done Tryfan? That's my favourite scramble and she's a quiet mountain on behalf of the fact she doesn't have a footpath up her.

What would happen if you twisted your ankle and the weather turned?
