Return of the ZX Spectrum!

I wonder if it still takes five minutes to load a game but crash after loading four minutes and fifty seconds of it!!

My Speccy and tape recorder ended up in the bin in 10 pieces because of that!

I remember spending hours writing programs for school on the zx81 only to breath near the uber 16kram module and loose the whole lot :(

Update on progress:

Response to the Vega Project

Our Indiegogo crowd funding campaign for the Sinclair Spectrum Vega games computer has been a great success. We raised £149,521, which is 50% more than our target.

More Features Added

During the two months when our Indiegogo campaign was running we received many suggestions and questions from Spectrum fans about various features that they would like to see added to the Vega’s specification. It is very important to us to satisfy as many as possible of these Spectrum fans, so we have considered all of their suggestions, and as a result we have decided to add two of their suggested features to the specification of the Vega.

1 ZX Spectrum games often make use of the keyboard to perform additional game operations. We are therefore adding extra buttons to the Vega, giving the user direct access to such operations for the majority of games.

2 We are designing the Vega with the capacity for expansion by providing a hardware interface on it's circuit board, and by allowing future software upgrades.

These improvements to our original specification have now been completed in the circuitry, on the printed circuit board layout, and in the plastics designs and the tooling drawings.

I can't see the point of it myself emulators still work last time I looked and if you want the real hardware and you're a collector its available on ebay and the like.

There seems to be a bit of contraversy on this product at the moment regarding the actual licensing of the games that doesn't seem to have been addressed yet. Remember the ZX Spectrum bluetooth keyboard? Not licensing games and simply inlcuding them without expecting any blow back pretty much killed funding for that although it did get there eventually I believe but I dont think anyone has a product in their hands yet.

I know from old Beeb software that basically its abandonware although its still copyright presumably, most of the developers have gone to the wall or moved on and basically it's not worth the time and expense of persueing any copyright claims. Obviously if theres actually a market for this stuff and real, actual money starts changing hands then I can imagine a few former developers blowing the dust off some old copyright agreements.

Yes

Tom & Jerry , Scooby Doo and flintstones are a few that spring to mind....:)

And Loony Tunes. I'd that lot over Spongebob Squarepants anyday.

It says

but with only four buttons, how exactly can you play text adventure games like Quest which require you to type full words? The on-screen keyboard sounds backwards.

So...

Exactly! How am I supposed to play my old L7 adventure games with a gamepad?

Loved my Spectrum until the amount of tapes per game became ridiculous.

I struggle to find time to play MAME so I don't think I'd get any value from one of these.

Too much new stuff to play.

We expect to send out the first 1,000 Vegas from the factory, direct to their owners, on May 29th.
