****Official Project CARS thread****

Whilst there is no doubt some truth in what ps3udo is saying I'm still willing to accept the update apology. Interested to see how things are with the final build.

Didn't DF say it was from not final code? They have done this several times now even with E3 stage demos for games a year at least away. Obviously those reading the article should understand that things will change and this close to release most of the time is optimising and bug fixing. I cant see the problem TBH its not final so take it with a pinch of salt, but the frame rate especially on the XB1 looks like it needs a lot of attention.

The issue I have (even though this is going off topic) is that I dont think theres that much value in analysing non-final code when its well known optimisation is one of the last things any dev does before going gold.

Doing analysis on patchless stuff is fine, but what do we really learn about a games performance when its not in a state for public consumption? EG/DF get their clicks, the developer/publisher probably get some additional negative press right before launch but all we get as a consumer is more concern over a build we were never going to experience.

Im not a fan of DF, they have a monopoly on game analysis which had led to many questions about their credibility and thoroughness

ps3ud0

Ya know what I find odd, that people listen to these sites and make a decision. Rather than having the ability to decide themselves...

I think Eurogamer reviews are OK but I stopped reading DF analysis articles a while back. The whole XB1/PS4 res/frames comparisons just bore me.

Anyway PCars - looking amazing. Hoping for great things from this game. Want something more simmy than DC - which I managed to sell for not very much money - and I miss having a Forza/GT type game in my life.

People still getting this then or what ? I've not pre ordered yet but if/when I do it'll be digital I think.

I've got the PC version already due to buying a team member pack years ago and i've pre ordered the PS4 version on PSN with the pre order car pack and limited edition update pack included.

The PC build is now very solid, some stuff still missing, pit crew animations are missing when you get your tires changed, pit line looking a little dead, tire logos aren't complete for some brands, some still have made up names, but Pirelli, dunlop and michelin are correct.

Tracks now have correct sponsors on track side billboards, time progression is working nicely now. Its certainly a good looking game, no doubt.

Not sure how well it'll review, some might not like the idea of clean racing and might find it ultimately boring.

IMO its going to please a lot of core racing fans, the Forza crowd might not pick up and instantly like it, the controls with a gamepad or no way near as forgiving as forza is, but then forza is a lifeless arcade game IMO in terms of handling, but with Project cars, you get a bit heavy handing with the accelerator and you'll be kissing the kerb or facing the other way quicker then you think..

Taking corners flat out needs correct line and throttle control, very playable just not as forgiving. Even GT 6 was and is way more forgiving..

Graphically similar to Forza I feel

Hmm well crowd's etc are not as 2d looking as in forza, dunno. Spent a lot of time on the PC version of project cars and its pretty solid looking visually... Upon saying that. Drive club despite its issues is no slouch in the graphics department...

Project cars has some pretty wicked lighting though. Sun through trees and into your view are without doubt best I've ever seen in a racing title. And track side vehicles such as rescue vehicles are very well done, even trackside marshals move and wave their arms about...

Pretty good visually. Not sure some will like the unforgiving handling via a gamepad ... You can tone it down. But even with aids on some cars are s right handful.. I don't mind it now, got used to it..

Yes I am still planning on getting it though..

this does put me off a little. I understand that SMS have aimed PCars as more sim like (simmy?) than games like Forza or GT and I would therefore expect it to be more difficult. However if, even with aids turned on, some cars are a handful meaning you really need a wheel then not sure I want to have to drop £250 on a T300RS to properly enjoy this game.

Just a heads up anyone who preordered digitally, check you have it set for auto download. I noticed I had to check some boxes to make sure it downloads automatically.

Not sure I've ever had to do that before.

You can check by going into your game library and finding project cars you can check the option on there.

You'll be fine. Its just not as forgiving if you get it wrong. Its perfectly playable with a gamepad. And a lot of fun as you can drive smooth lines once you get the hang of it.

But if you've been playing a lot of forza then you might find it a little different... Its not I racing levels , but its got a lot of settings you can change to try and balance the handlkng to a level you're comfortable with, I play the game on PC with a ds4 controller at the moment, and its perfectly fine... Just don't make too many mistakes ... Lol and respect the throttle a little more oit the corner's.

I thought that the was just me, as I had to do this as well.. The limited edition upgrade and pre order dlc pack was set to down load. But the core game wasn't.. Odd

Iv-tecman, seen as you have played this a lot on PC, can you tell me what the sense of speed is like?
Also is the touring events good, I always used to love the toca games on ps1/2 and I hope it's got some good touring car modes and the tracks like brands Hatch and Donington Park.

Cheers

I'd love to know this too, TOCA 2 was my go to game back in the day. A wet race at Donnington Park is pure touring cars imo :D

Depends on car and track. Spa eau rouge at night in a formula A or McLaren p1 you'll want to hit the brakes.. Take a Clio cup car out around snetterton it can feel a little pedestrian , just depends.

Touring cars around brands hatch or donnington in a ford serria or Zak speed Capri is good fun.

GT racing is where the best fun and sense of speed can be had at times, but take a Audi le mans racer down circuit Bugatti and you'll hit the straight and go, woohoo this is quick, and then miss the braking point and get the chicanes all wrong..

And SMS are going to expand on this title, dlc will see more cars some will be free as well. Honestly the game has so many options, variations and classes it should keep the dedicated racer happy enough..

Then there is the oval track racing dlc. Indy car and stock car oval tracks to come.

You can do a proper 24 hour le mans with accurate weather and time progression from the real circuit. The game checks the weather at the time you start. Raining at the real le mans, it rains in game...

Go to Silverstone and its sunny in Northampton. It's sunny in game. GT racing around Silverstone is wicked fun when it starts to rain and you all dive into the pits to change tires..

Note on pit crew, currently missing from PC version. But I think its being added as a patch. Not sure if day one patch mind..

They plan to add classic touring cars like Nissan primira etc later. For now. BMW 3 series. Capri and ford serria are all features. And a lot of fun..
