Halifax - £100 swap question

Did this a month or two back. The switch over was ~7 days after I opened the account, that all went through and then a day or two later I got the £125, free money is always the best :p

This month is the first month I've done the reward bit though, so paid in £750, 2x DD's out (4 actually in the end because their home insurance is 3 seperate DD's, but another £50 back in a couple of months) so should be getting a fiver sometime in the next week or so :)

Be careful with this, there's no problem with the free £100 but I run into problems when they went to move over my direct debits and they didn't. I think my phone and mortgage DD's were still being debited from my old account which when closed (automatically) bounced.

If you have loan, mortgage repayments and want to switch be sure to ask them not to transfer your whole balance across or close the old account. Leave a bit of cash in the old account that way if any DD's get missed or don't get transferred they won't get bounced and it won't effect your credit rating.

Don't the new bank protect you, their customer, from the potential fallout from this?

We've just taken advantage of this, from the appointment to close one of my old current accounts (which i haven't used for years), to getting £125 in my new account, took just over a week, 9 or 10 days.

So you have to pay 10 per month?

Do you have to actively use the account? Bills? Dd?

I switched last year. Got my £100 within 2 or 3 weeks of the account switch completing.

There's no monthly fee. Halifax seem so much better then HSBC where I came from.

Can I switch my second Lloyds current account without closing my main Lloyds current account and get this?

You get £100 to switch to First Direct and they have been nothing but phenomenal when I have had to contact them by phone. First ring, every time.

Halifax Ultimate Reward Account = £15 a month charge but you get £5 back for paying in £1000 and 2 DD's

Halifax Reward Account = no charges and free £5 when you pay in £750 and 2 DD's

So if you want/need the extras that come with the ultimate then choose that one.

Either one you get £125 when switching.

But can I use one of my Lloyd accouts for this? To switch ? Or does it mean i would need to close all accounts with Lloyds and switch? I have two current accounts, which are accessable through my online banking

But two separate account numbers obviously

If it's a current account there's no reason why not, like i said, i used my dormant santander account, infact, i had to go and reactivate the account so i could do the switch lol.

Are they both current accounts?

If they are there's no reason why not, like i said, i used my dormant santander account, infact, i had to go and reactivate the account so i could do the switch lol.

They are yes.

I will migrate the second current account which I have no bills coming in and out, but I do transfer money to/from every month

:)

Only thing im worried about is I dont have official bills, my salary going in and out of this account, however I do use it to transfer some salary in every month. To get this offer, do you need to have your salary and bills going in /out? they are asking about my employers details on this application

Same. These was back when the 7 day switch guarantee started (which is excellent).

Every time I've called up they've fixed my issue or answered my question.

Just on the phone to them, looks like I can qualify, just going through the application on the phone

grrr: so I need my other accounts debit card, great need to go and dig that out now, if I can find it, if not will have to order a new one before I can switch

Hopefully will find it later then I will just go through the application online rather than phone

Same here. What I found though is that I never really needed to call them, so the benefits of Santander and getting £30 a month back was something I couldn't pass up.

Be careful if you use your overdraft. Fees are high.

Better bet is switch to first direct same offer better bank

I have a Halifax Ultimate Reward Account for my salary to pay in to (costs me £10 a month with all the extras)

I have a Halifax Reward Account to pay rent and bills in/out of (earns £5 a month as I pay in more than £750 and have 2 DDs)

I have a TSB Classic Current Account with £2000 in it and earns about £12 interest every month on that balance (I just move £500 in/out on the same day to qualify for the interest)

I wouldn't mind switching to First Direct to get the extra £100 but I won't do that until after completion on my flat purchase.
