Halifax - £100 swap question

I did this on Monday or Tuesday, can't remember. Days are a blur when on night shifts.

I switched a basic Natwest account which I had for a few years and only started using it for matched betting. No direct debits and no income other than the bet returns. I got an account number and sort code in minutes and yesterday the card arrived.

So far so good, the transfer should be complete early next week, then it's just a matter of seeing when the cash gets deposited.

Still need to find a way to extract the extra £5 a month though. Might need to get creative with that.

I did this the last time they did this offer (last January) and did the transfer account option with a reward account and the £100 was deposited into my new account the day I opened the account.

Going to pop home on lunch and see if I can find the debit card for this 2nd lloyds account

EDIT: Sweet, I have it, better start the application online

Switch date 5th of may, and a free £125 3 days later, how generous, free money

Don't the new bank protect you, their customer, from the potential fallout from this?

No, it's the banks responsibility to pay your bills it's up to you so if your direct debit fails or bounces your going to be in trouble with your mortgage institution (it may help if you bank with your lender though).

Can I just set one of these up, set up two direct debits, transfer in £750 from my main account then transfer it back out the next day via standing order to get the £5?

Edit: Just seen you have to use their switch service which would switch all my direct debits, which I earn cashback from with Santander. I suppose I could switch from my Lloyds account which I don't use much any more..

Just to make £5?

hardly worth it

Im only bothering for the one off £125

I wouldnt have even bothered with the £125 one if I didnt have a second lloyds account I hardly use

too much hassle moving all bills, DD's, salary

I got the easier hand :D I knew having a second account would pay off eventually

I've just applied online for a new account via the halifax switching account link and there was no mention of the switching service, does that come after the account is set up? It's not asked for any of my previous account details at all.

Yes, you only get access to the switching thing once you've applied for the account :)

Be careful with this, there's no problem with the free £100 but I run into problems when they went to move over my direct debits and they didn't. I think my phone and mortgage DD's were still being debited from my old account which when closed (automatically) bounced.

If you have loan, mortgage repayments and want to switch be sure to ask them not to transfer your whole balance across or close the old account. Leave a bit of cash in the old account that way if any DD's get missed or don't get transferred they won't get bounced and it won't effect your credit rating.

You can't of done this recently as with the "guarantee switch" when your old account gets closed any debits or credit automatically get forwarded on to your new account for 18 months.

There is a lot of misinformation on this subject rant over :)

£60 per year interest isn't bad in today's climate. Mine switched over very smoothly. Did mine through quidco for an extra £40 ;)
Does the Quidco thing still stand do you know?

I'm still umming and ahhing about the whole thing, I still feel slightly loyal to my current bank Lloyds and yes I know, they're the same as Halifax. I suppose that could help me justify the move; I'm not leaving as such, just moving my account next door :D

How long does the £5 a month thing last out of interest? - no pun intended.

OK if you want to use it as your main account, I am pretty happy having my main account with Lloyds, didnt want to swap over a bunch of bills etc either so ill stick with the £125 deal :p

Looks like my spare lloyds account has been swapped over today to halifax

£125 free in a few days then :D

Oh yeah, forgot to update this, sorry.

I got the £125 credited in my account the day after the switch was complete. Very efficient, now just to find the next one to switch to :p
