Gears Of War remastered coming to Xbox One

Microsoft and Black Tusk Studios are developing a remastered version of the original Gears of War for Xbox One, sources tell Polygon.

The re-release of Gears of War for Xbox One will include updated visuals and reworked cutscenes, courtesy of animation studio Plastic Wax, according to a source. Stills of Gears of War's remade opening cinematic were shown to Polygon, offering a new look at the Locust invasion with updated visuals.

Certainly interesting news. I also saw a photo of a Black Tusk app on Xbox One which was for the beta players.

But why? I loved the games but they were of that era and kinda defined the 360 in many ways. I dont really have any desire to play them again at all.

It looks like their basically going to re sell the really old PC Gears of War port with some updated cut-scenes

I at least hope this isn't a full price game..

These 'remasters' need to stop. A new Gears game would be welcome for the Xbox One. A new anything actually.. Ours is just gathering dust. Even the Wii U gets more use..

If it was the trilogy remastered I'd buy it.. but just the first one I'm not so sure.

This. The 1st one feels particularly closed off and small in scale compared to 3 also.

Yay, another rehash from the past, well done M$. Here's an idea, put more effort into a new Gears of War for the console and maybe eventually the console will have some decent games. I wouldn't have to use my console as a dusty paperweight quite so often and actually turn it on!

If this has MP with a load of the maps from the 1st three games then I'm all for it. Gears is the reason why I got a 360.

Keep 'em coming, I say. It's not the original studios who are doing this work, it's others who specialise in this sort of thing. So they are not diverting man hours from new games. There's still Uncharted trilogy, the first two Batman games and Mass Effect trilogy to do yet!

I can't wait to play the Gears games in 1080p. And really looking forward to Horde mode in Gears 3.

You could have played Gears of War in 1080P years ago on PC, so far Gears of War 1 is the only 'remaster' rumoured. This will be the same x86 game code from the age old PC version with updated cutscenes and probably 720P as it's on Xbox One. Probably charge full price as well..

No I couldn't. I'm still using the same laptop I bought in 2007 and it's 8600M GT card couldn't play Gears then.

I have no intention of getting into the PC gaming scene again. My Xbox 360 is given away to my nephews so I can't play Gears on that either.

Ha, I see what you're saying. Shame though because PC is still the best way to play games imho. Not having a gaming PC is just depriving yourself of loads of quality game experiences.

I suppose it makes sense for maybe gamers who didn't play it the first time around, but I hope for some genuinely new games on Xbox One soon. A new Halo or Gears of War would be great. Recycling old PC code for console now that console is x86 is a bit cheeky imho, especially as this will probably run at 720P on Xbox One and they will likely charge full price for it.

New Gears or Halo would be great, no more 'remasters' plz, we're two years in and there is very little on new consoles that's worthwhile. I would argue that Wii U has best game selection so far, definitely the most enjoyable.

This just feels very much like a quick cash in, would rather they focus on new game experience.

Oh well maybe another year we'll have some quality new stuff on Xbox and PS4.

Because the Xbone and PS4 can produce higher quality visuals, it's taking much more time to create these assets than it has in the past. Anyone can knock out a few blocks of pixelart and make a game but producing the cinematic quality of an Uncharted game? It'll take longer than a Hollywood movie now.

And that's probably my biggest worry - by the time these games come out, the platform holders are going to say "OK, we're on to PS5 next year!" This generation barely feels like it's begun yet and we're already perhaps 1/4 way through.

Yeah this is a very good point, to design a game from the ground up for the new consoles and especially with development costs being what they are now is a big task.

I guess the other problem is that if you have a decent gaming PC, all the multiformat games, i.e Witcher 3, Arkham Knight aren't system sellers as you can play them better on PC. So with the new consoles there is very little new content to make it worthwhile.

For those without a decent PC though, just the upgrade from PS3 > PS4 Xbox 360 > Xbox One in visuals and system speed is great, so those guys probably love all the games on PS4 / Xbox One. As it is a nice step up from older consoles.

Guys like me though with a capable PC are left wandering why we bought these consoles at all

. Two years in and we've just got multiformat games that are better on our PC's and a few console exclusives that haven't really been that amazing so far..

E3 this year might show some good stuff.. (Hopefully)

Forgive me for being blunt but isn't that your own fault? Why did you buy an Xbone/PS4 if there's nothing you want for it? Was it a case of "Ooh, shiny new thing! I must have it!"

Ha no worries, yeah initially Killzone and Infamous sold me on the PS4. But once I finished them there has been very little since to keep me on PS4.

The Xbox One I intended to wait a while as I wasn't as compelled to grab one by any of the games, but saw a great deal on a Sunset Overdrive limited console, and the kids were pestering me

Once we had played that game, again it hasn't really been turned on since.

All the other good games coming up, Witcher 3, Arkham Knight, Black Ops 3, Star Wars Battlefront etc will be better on PC, so there is very little to look forward to on console if you already have decent PC.

I expected by this point for there to be some more good games you know, but it seems like we have to get through a wave of remasters before we get to anymore good stuff

If they announce that upcoming new Gears of War games are coming to Windows 10, then I will sell the Xbox One as there really is no reason for me to keep it. Uncharted will keep me owning a PS4 for while.

This is another thing that's changed over the years - did you really finish those games or just play them once? There are probably trophies to be earned, side missions to be played, etc. Everyone these days just plays through once and moves on to something else. In my early days of gaming, there wasn't as big a selection so you had to play the same things for weeks on end.
